Dedication Ceremony of the "Veterans Memorial Garden of Westland" to be held on Veteran's Day
The Westland Veterans Association proudly announces the Dedication Ceremony of the "Veterans Memorial Garden of Westland". The Ceremony will begin at 2:00 P.M., Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, 2013. The ceremony will be held behind the Westland Public Library, located at 6123 Central City Parkway. There will be parking on the library site and also at the Westland City Hall, located at 36601 Ford Road. A shuttle will run between city hall and the library.

 

The ceremony will feature various honor guards from Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts, American Legion Posts and Ladies Auxiliary Units. The State of Michigan, Veterans of Foreign Wars, nationally recognized State Honor Guard will post colors. In addition members of the 338th U.S. Army Band will perform and the main speaker for the Dedication Ceremony will be Major General Gregory J. Vadnais, the Adjutant General and the Director of Military and Veterans Affairs for the State of Michigan.

 

The memorial is a culmination of over six years of planning and fundraising. The focal point will be a center monument, consisting of ten granite panels which will have engraving noting twelve wars our country has been involved in. In addition there will be a "Walk of History" that will consist of twelve coves that will feature a monument explaining the history of each war depicted on the center panels. There will also be a special cove honoring our Prisoner of Wars and Missing in Action.

 

Everyone is invited to attend this special Dedication Ceremony. There will be a reception following the conclusion of the ceremony at the Harris-Kehrer Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3323. The post is located at 1055 S. Wayne Road in Westland.
