Sewing in winter

When the wind howls or the skies are just gray, what better way to spend your down time than in the sewing room. We are gradually preparing space for  Spring 2014 and as we do, we find some short yardage gems to share with you.

Cream Comfort
Cream Comfort
When we see a "white" knit that is essentially opaque, we are all over it! This creamy white interlock knit is perfect for winter tees and turtles. Wear it as a wardrobe basic or embellish for a dressier look. Imported from Italy. Cotton/elastic
Edna
rayon lace

Delicate, intricate and richly colored, this machined lace is reminiscent of your great grandmother's shawl, but with a decidedly contemporary feel Imported for a West Coast manufacturer, the deep taupe rayon fabrication is perfect for a lace top, cardigan or full dress with matching underlayer. Dress it up or wear it with your best jeans, you'll love this bit of whimsy in your wardrobe.

Wesley
wool herringbone

Looking for a classic blazer? Wishing for a stately jacket? Want to recreate the tweedy look from another era? This herringbone tweed will do the trick. The wine and ivory wool yarns are twisted with subtle tics of color to add depth to the weave. Imported from Italy this fashion season..

Black Forest
double face

This stable jersey knit is printed on the pearl side in forest green. We love the effect of a slightly heathered face on a soft black reverse. Great choice for a comfortable cardigan with turn-back cuffs or contrasting collar and bands. This unique rayon knit came to us from an Italian mill at a special price...we pass on the good fortune!

Jan 6

Back from my northern adventures and glad I made it home to Florida before the big freeze. Last night, I made my sleeves, so tonight I can pop them on the shirt and then I'm in the home stretch!

 Founder of SBDF Remembered
Some of you have been with Sawyer Brook from the beginning, when the company was founded in 1974 in Orford, NH by Kristin and Truman Brackett. The couple retired to Key Largo, FL and in 1991 sold the business to the current owners.  We recently learned that Mr Brackett died last May.
We remember Truman fondly and continue to be grateful for the help that he gave us during the transition of ownership. We send our sincere condolences out to his wife and family.
