Contact Rodney Pierini, admin@cawa.org or call  800-332-2292 , ext. 1.
AAA of California Has Introduced a Telematics Bill - Will Have Implications for Arizona and Nevada Too
CAWA is coordinating a meeting with AAA and our national colleagues from CARE and AAIA to discuss the bill (here) and to offer amendments to assure our industry is positively affected should the bill be signed into law. Rest assured that CAWA will be monitoring this bill as it finds its way through the legislative process. For more information, contact CAWA's California based legislative advocate, Gary Conover at 916.233.9655 or gary@garyconover.com.
Compliance with Copper Content in Brake Pads Website - Take a Look
Recall, CAWA participated in a Task Force to develop a website that educates our industry on brake pad compliance issues given the reduced copper content law passed a couple of years ago. To review the website, go to www.copperfreebrakes.org . Should you have any questions, contact our Director of Government Affairs, Jennifer Zins at 916.871.0603 or Jennifer@perrycom.com.
Automotive Product Toxic Chemicals in Sights of the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC)
The DTSC has taken the first steps toward practical implementation of the Safer Consumer Products Alternatives, or Green Chemistry, law in California.  In full implementation, product manufacturers whose products contain "priority" chemicals posing various health or environmental risks as determined by DTSC, will be required to go through an "alternatives analysis" to reduce or eliminate the prevalence of the chemicals in the products, or face a range of government actions, from mandated labels to outright bans on product sales in California. CAWA is following DTSC's progress in identifying harmful chemicals some of which will be automotive related. For more information, contact our Director of Government Affairs, Jennifer Zins at 916.871.0603 or Jennifer@perrycom.com.
eBay and its Role in the Distribution of Automotive Parts
At the recent CAWA leadership meeting, an eBay representative made a presentation regarding their role in the distribution of automotive parts. A clear message was that eBay does not sell parts but puts the buyer and seller of parts together. Furthermore, the annual revenue from the sale of parts through eBay was staggering and growing rapidly. To learn more about eBay see the enclosure (here). To learn more about what is affecting your business, consider attending the next leadership meeting in Newport Beach. Look for registration materials next week and call or email (800.332.2292, ext. 1 or admin@cawa.org) Rodney Pierini for details.
Important PCI Compliance Update - Windows XP Tech Support Expiration
Effective April 8, 2014, Microsoft is discontinuing the technical support programs currently in place for the Windows XP operating system, including automatic updates. Per PCI DSS v3.0, Requirement 6, subsection 6.2, any merchant who is still using this operating system after the April 8, 2014 deadline will fail their PCI compliance validation. If you are currently utilizing the Windows XP operating system on your computer or network please contact  CAWA endorsed Superior Financial Services Customer Care immediately at (866) 601-2733 for more information on how Microsoft's decision will affect you, and the steps you can take to avoid falling out of compliance.
Refrigerant Reporting Requirements for Distributors - Do You Know the Law?
CAWA members were notified last month regarding a regulation that requires reporting of the sale of small can refrigerants. If you do not know the law, you should. Members regularly receive compliance alerts for their consideration and information. To be a member of CAWA, simply fill out the enclosed application and send in the annual dues or send in a quarterly payment. For more information regarding compliance alerts and membership in the Association, contact our President & CEO, Rodney Pierini at 800.332.2292, ext. 1 or admin@cawa.org.
