Dear Families,
Children are always watching. We send unspoken messages to our children on a daily basis. We are their first role models. When we volunteer, we set the example that giving back to the community is important. When you volunteer at your child's school, you send the message: "Your school is so fun that I want to be there, too. It's so important that I want to help out." What a powerful message! Shayna's Village and the ECLC have many volunteer opportunities throughout the school year.
We need a lot of help with our upcoming KidzArt fundraiser on Sunday, March 2. We have arranged the volunteer spots so that you can help for 2 hours and spend the rest of the time participating with your own family. The time slots are 10:30-12:30 or
12:30-2:30. If you are able to volunteer for one or both shifts, please contact us at [email protected]. Most volunteers will be working directly with the children at art stations, and we repeatedly hear how much fun our volunteers have.
Thank you for considering helping us on this big day. Moms, Dads, Aunts, Uncles, Grandmas, Grandpas and older siblings are all welcome as volunteers. We couldn't put on an event as special as KidzArt without you, so... set the example. Let your child see you making a difference.
Sincerely,
Karen Duncan

Art is a basic part of a good education (taken from ART IN ACTION) |
- Creating art helps children discover the unexpected possibilities of their creativity.
- Art teaches critical thinking rather than getting the right answer.
- Through art children learn that problems can have more than one solution and that questions can have more than one answer.
- Art teaches students about subtleties.
- Art teaches children to evaluate and make good judgments about qualitative relationships.
- Art reminds us that the limits of our language do not define the limits of our thinking.
- Art celebrates multiple perspectives and different ways to see and interpret the world.
- Art teaches students to explore through and within possible responses.
- Art empowers children to say what cannot be said.
- Art enables us to discover the range and variety of what we are capable of doing.
- Including art in the school curriculum shows students what adults know is important.

Shayna Cai Presser was a preschooler when she died of cancer in the early 1990s.
Her time spent at the Jewish Community Center in Maitland, however, led her parents to establish a place there in her honor with an endowment fund.
|
Shayna's Village is located within the Early Childhood Learning Center at the Roth JCC Maitland Campus. When your child begins in our preschool, your entire family joins the JCC family. Both moms and dads make new friends through our fitness center and classes, sports leagues, arts programs, and family events. At the JCC, the entire family makes friends for life.
