Westland Promotes Three Veteran Police Officers


Westland, MI
Mayor William R. Wild is pleased to announce three promotions within the Westland Police Department. Eileen DeHart, Westland City Clerk, officially swore in veteran policemen Robert Wilke, Dan O'Connell and Brian Miller this morning, August 9, 2013.

 

Sergeant Robert Wilke was promoted from Officer to Sergeant. Sergeant Wilke has been with the Westland Police Department (WPD) for ten years and has served as a Field Training Officer. Wilke is a TASER instructor, member of the Wayne County Mobile Field Force Team, and has received numerous awards, including; the Life Saving Award and POAM Officer of the Year. 

 

Lieutenant Dan O'Connell was promoted today as well, and moved up from Sergeant to Lieutenant . Lieutenant O'Connell has been with the WPD for 21 years, serving as a Field Training Officer. He is an experienced evidence technician and has worked in our Special Investigation Unit, Detective Bureau, and Support Services Bureau.

 

The third officer to receive a promotion today was Lieutenant Brian Miller who will now be Deputy Chief. He has served the WPD for 16 years as a Field Training Officer Supervisor. Deputy Chief Miller has also worked in the Detective Bureau, and was assigned to ICAC (the State Internet Crimes Unit). He has proudly served as a Lieutenant in Support Services.

 

Chief Jeffrey Jedrusik said that all of the candidates are excellent police officers and a credit to their profession.

 

"These experienced and skilled Officers are the future of the Westland Police Department," said Mayor Wild. "I know that they are up for the challenge that these leadership roles demand and will proudly serve and protect our All American City."
