  • The Pew Internet & American Life Project is a go-to source for data and analysis that charts the ongoing escalation of internet use via all forms of technology. A September 2013 report, "Who's Not Online and Why" indicates that 15% of American adults ages 18 and older still do not use the internet or email. And, among the 85% of adults who do go online, experiences connecting to the internet may vary widely. Read the report. 
  • Bill Shore, Founder and CEO of Share Our Strength, a national nonprofit organization, writes a blog for The Chronicle of Philanthropy titled "Leading for Social Good." A recent post, "Innovation Often Starts With the Words, 'What if?' proposes that altering our approach to programs and services can result in significant change. Visit the blog.

SPOTLIGHT ON INNOVATION
At one time, Skokie, IL was home to five Fortune 500 companies, all now gone. Skokie Public Library partnered with its Chamber of Commerce to build a combination meeting and program facility as well as a co-working space to support small and home-based businesses, entrepreneurs and job seekers. Read how this partnership is helping to support and grow businesses in their community.

MEMBER ACHIEVEMENTS
Chicago Public Library's YOUmedia is slated to receive a $500,000 budget increase from the City in 2014. This funding will enable the library to serve a projected 25% more teens by expanding the program. Read more

Kansas City Public Library Director Crosby Kemper III is being showered with honors this month!   In addition to being named the 2013 Public Administrator of the Year, Crosby has also received  the 2013 Award for Community Service and International Understanding from the International Relations Council.
