As we have indicated numerous times since the November 2014 elections, more than $12 billion in new school construction is coming compliments of voters approving more than 80 school construction bonds across California. This does not include billions more out there from bonds passed in previous years. The latest news regarding bonds targeted for PLAs include: Salinas Union High School District: The board, which voted for a PLA on its bond work last month, will be getting an update on the PLA negotiations with local union bosses. The update is that no real negotiations have occurred and it doesn't look like there is much of a rush to get anything "negotiated". This is good news as projects are getting close to bid. The board will meet TONIGHT, June 23rd at 7pm at 431 W. Alisal St. in Salinas. Vacaville Unified School District: The VUSD Board of Trustees are set to vote on whether or not to move ahead with a PLA on its first phase of school bond construction money. Trustees have been getting pressure from big labor special interests to have all school work placed under a PLA, something that was never discussed with the public prior to the District's $194 million school bond being voted on in November. This has not gone unnoticed by local taxpayers. The meeting will take place this Thursday, June 25th at 7:00pm at 401 Nut Tree Road in Vacaville . We encourage you to attend this meeting if you are able and to contact the trustees today to let them know your thoughts on PLAs. Click HERE to contact the Board of Trustees. Hayward Unified School District: This school board, almost exclusively owned and operated by big labor special interests, will be voting on Wednesday to approve a PLA on the District's recently passed $229 million Measure L school construction bond. The objectivity displayed by this dysfunctional school district in dealing with this issue can be seen in its grammatically illiterate and hyperbolic summary of the action item: On June 18, 2015, The District and met collaboratively with local union representatives to review and agree upon the PSA being presented to the BOE on June 24, 2015 for approval. At its core, the new agreement is essentially an update from the ever successful Measure I PSA. The District, union representatives, and local community agree that the prior PSA and performance was worthy to repeat with Measure L. One representative shared, "The Measure I PSA has been the most successful language we've ever encountered not only in our local area, but maybe even the nation." Culver City Unified School District: The $106 million Measure CC was passed by voters in June of 2014 with no hint a PLA would be placed on it. The board has now discussed the issue of PLAs and CFEC will go to work helping them to understand why it's a bad idea. Azuza Unified School District: Voters of this district approved a $92 million school construction bond in November of 2014. Now big labor special interests are trying to get the work placed under a PLA. CFEC will see to it that the board is educated on this issue.
