DID YOU CATCH THESE TRAVEL ARTICLES ABOUT SUN VALLEY?
|
Just in case you missed it last month ... we're sharing a few links to recent articles about Sun Valley. Take a few minutes during the holidays to read up on this historic destination and the many activities available in the area.
"36 Hours in Sun Valley, Idaho" The New York Times
"Nostalgia can feel like the dominant mode at the Sun Valley Resort near Ketchum, Idaho, which was founded by W. Averell Harriman in 1936 to bring passengers to the West on the Union Pacific Railroad. Just check out the photographs in the hallways at the Sun Valley Lodge - isn't that Gary Cooper, Janet Leigh, Lucille Ball? All were high-glam-quotient visitors to this resort during its Hollywood glory days. (These days, it's a favorite of perhaps less-photogenic tech moguls and their pals.)" Read more ...
"Three Perfect Days: Sun Valley, Idaho"
Hemispheres Magazine
"The first modern skier to spend three perfect days in Sun Valley, Idaho, was Austrian Count Felix Schaffgotsch. In 1936, diplomatically destined Averell Harriman, the president of Union Pacific Railroad, commissioned Schaffgotsch to search for what could become the American West's version of the popular Swiss winter sports center St. Moritz. Schaffgotsch hoped to discover a meteorological Rubik's Cube: a perfect mix of freezing but not frigid temperatures and deep but not impassable or unskiable snow. He was looking for a place where indigo skies framed each day and powerful storms ruled the night. And he wanted it all surrounded by towering mountains. Last, this perfectly powdery place should have an authentic Western town." Read more ...
"Expert Advice: Where to Ski Now"
Men's Journal
"The Warm Springs ski run on Bald Mountain in Sun Valley, Idaho, is considered by many to be the best stretch of downhill in the country. The two-mile-long, top-to-bottom screamer charges straight through a natural gully with banked sidewalls before opening up to the width of a California freeway." Read more ...
"Get Out There"
Sun Valley Magazine
"'Nordic Town, USA' (also known as Sun Valley, Idaho) is a community that truly celebrates cross country skiing. Like the five Olympic rings, the coaches, athletes, community, events and terrain of the Wood River Valley link together to create a history-and a future-for Sun Valley's Nordic scene that is steeped in Olympic tradition."
