Dinner at the 2015 VOS conference in Sun Valley, Idaho.
|
|
|
|
The 42nd VOS conference was held in March 2015 at Sun Valley, Idaho, under sunny skies and beautiful conditions. The event was well attended with 238 participants from 36 states and 10 countries. The conference venue was excellent, and the educational talks and discussions outstanding.
These meetings require a significant amount of effort by a variety of people, all of whom deserve credit for putting together a great event and making it happen - THANK YOU! A special acknowledgment to Dr. Ken Bruecker for all his hard work and commitment to the Veterinary Orthopedic Society this past year as our exiting president.
A little bit of history about me: I graduated from Veterinary School at Colorado State University in 1987 and completed my Small Animal Surgical residency at University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1992. I've worked at private referral practices in Denver, Reno-Tahoe area, and now Portland/Hood River, Oregon. My first VOS meeting was Breckenridge 1988, and I've been committed ever since. I served on the Executive Board of the Veterinary Orthopedic Society as Communication Chair from 2002-2005. I am honored and privileged to again serve on the Executive Board as the new President for 2015-2016.
I have found the VOS meetings to be an excellent combination of education, exercise, and enjoyment. It could be discussing a case with a buddy on the chair lift, listening to a state-of-the art presentation during lectures, learning about a new product or technique from one of the many fantastic vendors, or catching up with an old friend at the bar after lectures - the opportunities to learn, get informed, have fun, and stay connected or catch up are endless. Always a CE meeting "not to miss." The entire VOS board is committed to making this meeting one you don't want to miss either.
Next year the VOS meeting returns to Big Sky, Montana, a favorite of many VOS members, and truly one of the greatest ski resorts in North America. In fact, their slogan is "Biggest Skiing in America," and with 5,800 skiable acres, they are now the largest ski area in the United States. There is also fantastic Nordic skiing available at Lone Mountain Ranch, just down the road. Or, awesome excursion options, such as fly fishing the Gallatin River or snowmobiling in Yellowstone National Park. This will be a great meeting, at a great location. The dates have moved back one week to February 27-March 5, 2016, so be aware and plan accordingly. Put it on your calendar now and don't miss out!

VOS UPDATES ADVERTISING PROGRAM
|
VOS has streamlined its advertising program for its 2015 email newsletters. Advertisers may choose to place an ad for one billing cycle, which covers three newsletter issues, or select a discounted annual package, which covers nine newsletter issues. VOS is now offering vertical banner ad space in addition to horizontal banner ad space. Horizontal and vertical banner ads are available in two sizes (single-height or double-height), and each ad may be linked to the advertiser's website homepage or other web page. A maximum of 15 horizontal and 2 vertical advertising spaces are available in each issue, and priority is given to annual advertisers. To receive more details about the advertising program, please contact Janet Van Dyke. |
VOS members: We'd like to receive your news about recent publications, job opportunities, speaking engagements, etc. for publication in our email newsletter and website. Please send your news items with photos if possible to secretary@vosdvm.org. |

A SPECIAL NOTE OF THANKS TO OUR SPONSORS AND EXHIBITORS
|
from Janet Van Dyke and Cheryl Tano
VOS Sponsor and Exhibitor Co-Chairs
Each year, the VOS conference is planned with a great deal of attention being given to having an excellent scientific program along with abundant skiing, boarding, and colleague networking time. Financing the meeting is an ongoing challenge in our effort to keep registration fees reasonable.
We want to take this opportunity to thank our exhibitors and sponsors who make this meeting possible. We encourage you to let them know you appreciate what they do for VOS when you visit them at our meetings or other meetings you may attend, and when they send a representative to your hospital. Without them, we would be hard pressed to have the quality of meeting we do without prohibitive registration fees. So here is a "shout out" to the 2015 sponsors and exhibitors ... THANK YOU!

VOS 2015 CONFERENCE: FANTASTIC
MEETING AND EXCEPTIONAL PODIUM PRESENTATIONS
|
Thanks to the involvement and support of so many, I am really happy with the success of the VOS 2015 Conference in Sun Valley, Idaho. The venue, skiing and food were all fantastic.
The podium presentations were exceptional. Most of the residents outshone their faculty mentors in quality and respect of time allotted.
The integration of poster presentations with exhibitors allowed for great access to both by all participants.
I come away from every VOS conference with a wealth of new knowledge. I strongly encourage everyone to invite your colleagues to the conference next year.
I could have not done my job without the full support of the entire Board of Directors and Executive Secretary Maralyn Probst. Thanks to all.
