Scripps scientists win $3.5M grant for diabetes treatment

Scientists at the Scripps Research Institute in Jupiter received a $3.5 million grant to develop a treatment for diabetes.

 

The National Institutes of Health awarded the five-year grant to a team led by Patrick R. Griffin, chair of the department of molecular therapeutics at Scripps Florida. He's working with researchers at the University of Toledo.

 

The scientists are working to develop drug candidates that target the receptor peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors gamma (PPARG), which regulates the body's sensitivity to insulin.

Intensive Care Unit at Cleveland Clinic Florida Receives Beacon Award for Excellence

from American Association of Critical-Care Nurses

 

Cleveland Clinic Florida's ICU, based in Weston, recently earned the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses' (AACN) Beacon Award for Excellence, signifying the exceptional care achieved through improved patient outcomes and greater overall patient satisfaction. Cleveland Clinic Florida is one of just 15 hospitals in the state that is home to a Beacon-awarded unit and the only nursing team in Broward to achieve this honor.

 

"Nurses are integral partners in the quality care and patient experience we provide every day at Cleveland Clinic Florida," said Kerry Major, Cleveland Clinic Florida's Chief Nursing Officer. "Because of the caliber and commitment of our nursing staff, we are able to provide Cleveland Clinic patients with world-class care."

 

South Broward Firm Earns Certification, Secures Equity Capital 

 

The Extenders Group, a Hallandale Beach based provider of NP's and PA's serving hospitals and physician practices, recently announced receipt of Joint Commission Certification. In addition, Extenders Group just secured growth capital from a private equity firm and revenues are projected to grow to $20 million. The firm is led by CEO Rick Yarosh.

 

Virtual health care firm aims to expand after $50M capital raise
