 Holiday Helpers - Best Kids Camp Ever!
April 4th, 9AM-2PM WHS Main Building
Need more time to prepare for Easter and Passover? On Saturday, April 4th, from 9:00 A.M- 2 P.M in the Wayland High School Commons, the WHS Entrepreneurship class team called "Holiday Helpers" will run a camp for kids ages 3 (potty trained) - 12. Kids will enjoy arts and crafts, fun indoor sports, family friendly movies, cookie decorating, and a treasure hunt while under the supervision of Wayland High School students and faculty. Our community service activity this time will be writing letters and drawing pictures for men and women in the military. Pizza and snacks will be provided as well as Passover options for those who celebrate. Cost: $35 for full day, $20 for half day (3 hours or less), half price for every additional child in the same family. All profits will be donated to the National Alliance of Mental Illnesses.

 Have Lunch or Dinner at China Rose April 8
Support the Wayland PTO
Please come out to support the Wayland PTO by having lunch or dinner at China Rose Restaurant in Wayland. 10% of the day's profits from the restaurant will be donated to the PTO, which will use the funds to support activities such as our Cultural Enrichment programs. Not only will you be supporting the PTO, but you'll also be helping a business that is very devoted to being a supportive member of the Wayland community. We hope to see you on April 8th!

 April is Alcohol Awareness Month
What is alcohol awareness? It is knowing the effect of alcohol on the developing adolescent brain, what one serving of alcohol is and what constitutes binge drinking. It is talking with our children and having family rules about underage drinking. Alcohol awareness is also about what we as parents and a community can do to help our children develop stronger social and emotional skills -- what we teach our children about peer pressure, self-awareness, confidence, health and well-being. These skills support alcohol awareness and support an environment in which adolescents make healthier decisions about alcohol and other risky behaviors. WaylandCares, Wayland Youth and Family Services, and the Wayland Public Library are pleased to provide a selection of books and other materials about alcohol, addiction, and parenting topics. Please visit the display on the main floor of the public library throughout the month. Can't make it to the library? You can view programs on WayCam's website. Look for the WaylandCares folder under on-demand programs. Chris and Toren Volkmann, authors of From Binge to Blackout: according to Janet Maslin of the New York Times, "...this account is divided between two narrators: Toren Volkmann who slid with scary ease from fun-loving party guy to desperate alcoholic; and Chris Volkmann, his mother, who bought Toren's assurances that he was fine. He had a secret, and she hadn't a clue." This program is appropriate for adults and students in grades 8-12. Joani Geltman speaks to parents with children in fourth through eighth grade about the importance of talking to our children early and often about alcohol. Joani provides true stories and offers suggestions for how to broach the subject. This program is appropriate for adults who have or work with young adolescents.

 WDW is Looking for Munchkins! April 8 Auditions Rising 4th & 5th Grade Students
Do you know a rising 4th or 5th grade girl or boy who loves to perform? Have them join us this summer for some singing, dancing and general tra-la-la'ing in our production of The Wizard of Oz. Munchkins will rehearse one evening per week starting mid-June and participate in all five performances between July 16 and July 25, 2015. Rehearsals and performances will take place at Regis College in Weston, MA
. Munchkins must:
- not be too tall
- enjoy performing
- be able to follow the Yellow Brick Road
Cost for the program is $250, which includes a $20 non-refundable registration fee. Email us at [email protected] to request your audition form with all the details. Auditions are Wednesday, April 8 at 5:30pm at Rivers School Black Box theater in Weston, MA. Please prepare 1-2 minutes from a musical theater song. Bring sheet music if you have it. IF not, we'll teach you a short selection from the show. And there might be a bit of dancing involved, so comfortable shoes would be preferable to ruby slippers.

 Mass. Memories Road Show Revisited April 12, 2:00 to 4:30 pm

Stop by and celebrate Mass. Memories Road Show Revisited and learn about Wayland's huge town-wide digital photo album and scrapbook Sunday April 12, 2-4:30 pm at the Grout Heard House Museum. Come celebrate Wayland residents of all generations, races and backgrounds - old timers or new arrivals. Meet participants from last year's Wayland 375 Mass. Memories Road Show event at the Middle School. Residents who shared family photos and memories for the MMRS digital archive will gather again to talk about their contributions and the stories behind them. Visitors can watch videos about last year's event and view the 375 images collected last year. Julie Secord and others are providing a wonderful community quilt cake and other refreshments for all visitors.  Civil War Boston Discussion April 14, 7:00 pm

Author and historian Barbara F. Berenson will discuss her new book about Civil War Boston at the Wayland Public Library, Tuesday, April 14th at 7:00 pm. Come learn how Boston's abolitionists forged a second American revolution dedicated to ending slavery. Refreshments will be served after the talk. All are welcome!  "Piccadilly Players" Theater Program For Kids Grades K - 8
Aladdin: July 6-17
The Little Mermaid: July 20-31
Piccadilly Players runs two-week long sessions, Monday-Friday, 1-4 PM. During each session, children rehearse and perform a complete musical production. Regular activities include theater games, costume and set construction, singing, dancing, and of course, acting. Additionally, special leadership roles are available to middle school aged participants as actors, stage managers, or assistant directors. On the last day of each session, we will perform the show for family and friends at 4 PM. All sessions are held in the parish center of St. Zepherin Church in Wayland.  WHSTE Presents Footloose the Musical April 29 & 30, May 1 & 2
WHS Auditorium
Footloose will have you dancing in your seats at the Wayland High School Main Stage on April 29 and 30, and May 1 and 2. Based on the enormously popular 1984 movie,
Footloose will transport the audience back to the '80s with its vintage costumes and energetic dancing. The score includes chart-topping music from the film ("Almost Paradise," "Holding Out For A Hero," "Let's Hear It For The Boy," and others) as well as additional material written for the stage. Curtain time is 7:30pm on April 29 and 30, May 1 and 2. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors. Seating is assigned.  Sudbury Valley Trustees April & May Programs
Sudbury Valley Trustees (SVT) is offering a number of opportunities for children to get outside and explore Wolbach Farm, 18 Wolbach Road, Sudbury this spring. On April 21, AMC/Outdoors RX will be leading a family program, "Salamander, Frogs and Bugs Hunt," for young children and their adults. On April 23, families can enjoy a nature-themed puppet show, "The Twig Family in the Oak" by award-winning puppeteer, Deborah Costine. In May, children can join Amy Stimac of the Goodnow Library for Letterboxing, a fun outdoor treasure hunt that involves clues, ink stamps, and exploration on the trails.  Spring Book & Bake Sale May 2 & 3
Wayland Public Library The Friends of the Wayland Public Library will sponsor their Spring Book and Bake Sale on Saturday, May 2, from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 3, from 12:00-4:00 p.m. All proceeds go to support Library programs and services. The sale will be held in the Large Hearing Room in the Wayland Town Building, 41 Cochituate Road. Donations of books will be accepted during set-up in the Large Hearing Room on Wednesday, April 29, and Thursday, April 30. Donations of baked goods will be accepted from Friday until the end of the sale on Sunday. Internet book scanning devices are not permitted in the sale area.
