Good morning,

We have an important week ahead in Wayland. On Tuesday, we have town-wide voting. I want to take this opportunity to encourage you and your family to vote. It is a wonderful and meaningful learning experience for your children to be engaged in the process and understand that everyone has a voice.  Who votes has a powerful impact on public policy, especially as it relates to our schools. Bring your children with you to the polls and teach them at an early age that their voice matters.  Also, town meeting is starting on Monday, April 6th. We encourage you to have your voice heard there as well.

Warm regards,

George

WMS Spring Track Team

The WMS Spring Track Team wants you! All 6th, 7th and 8th graders are encouraged to join our track team. The team competes against other 6th, 7th, and 8th graders from neighboring communities and athletes can compete in a wide range of events.  Whether you are a sprinter, jumper, thrower or long distance runner, this is a great opportunity to get into terrific shape and be part of a strong winning tradition at WMS.  Athletes and families can learn more about the team and can also register by visiting our Spring Track Blog.  The first practice will take place on Monday, April 6th and the season continues until early June.  Please click on the link below for more details.  We hope to see you cheering on our team at our track meets!

Middle & More

April 2

Come meet Wayland Youth Officer Shane Bowles at this month's "Middle & More" coffee, this Thursday, April 2nd, from 9:00-10:00 am in the WMS Library.  Have you ever wondered why a police car is often parked outside the middle school? Have your children talked about seeing a police officer at lunch?  Officer Bowles will join us to talk about the role of the Safety Officer at WMS. In addition, he will introduce our new school safety protocol ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate) and describe how teachers are being trained to respond in the event of an intruder.  Please contact Cathy Scholz at [email protected] if you have any questions.

If you can't come this month, we hope you can join us for our next Middle and More coffee - Friday, May 15th, 9:00-10:00 am, when we will be hear from Dossie Kahn of Wayland Youth and Family Services on "Nurturing Independence and Responsibility Through the Middle School Transitions."

Cradles to Crayons

March 30 to April 10

Clothing Drive - Project 351

Please help Cradles to Crayons with their mission. Many kids aged 0-12 in Massachusetts are faced with the problem of homelessness or poverty. With your help, we can give them proper clothing so that they can survive the hot summers and frigid winters. There will be 5 collection bins around the school (cafeteria, Lobby, 6th grade area, 7th grade area, 8th grade area).  Please donate:

  • New and gently used clothing (kids sizes 0-20, adult small and medium)
  • Shoes, sneakers, winter boots (infant/child sizes 0-13, youth/adult sizes 1-10)
  • Winter coats and spring jackets
  • Socks, underwear, pajamas

Most needed items:

  • Boys long pants (up to 30 inch waist)
  • Boys and girls shirts (Ages 2-12)
  • Socks, underwear, pajamas
Guidelines:
  • Clothing should not be ripped, overly worn, or stained.
  • Please be sure the clothing is appropriate for a middle school student or younger.
  • C2C serves children of all backgrounds, so there shouldn't be items that refer to religious, family relationships, or specific activities.
  • College clothing is encouraged to inspire children to dream big! C2C can only accept sports team items for New England teams.
