Commons Connections

August 2013

Greetings!

It's been a busy summer at Chicago Commons. There have been great strides in the overall growth of the organization as well as some of our program services, and we are proud to share our recent achievements.

  • Continued organization growth: Our budget for FY2014 has grown more than 16 percent from FY2013 to $28 million with nearly 740 employees! As one of Chicago's oldest organizations, having been around longer than some of the city's most respected corporations and institutions, this truly shows our ability to adapt to this ever changing environment, and makes us one of the larger human service providers in Chicago.
  • Our Senior Care Program is taking off: We absorbed the Home Care Program of Bethel New Life in April, which is an organization on Chicago's west side that works to bring people and communities out of poverty. In just 30 days, Chicago Commons was able to transition all of the Home Care staff and nearly every client. At the beginning of August, we took over Bethel New Life's Adult Day Care program located at 4349 W. Washington. Our Home Care Program now serves 1,400 seniors and the new Adult Day Care program has more than 125 seniors enrolled in the program and has 65 attending on a daily basis.
  • For many years, we have dedicated ourselves to caring for seniors and as a result, have become one of the largest community-based providers of senior care programs in  Chicago.
  • New Funders: We were recently awarded support from United Way and Blue Cross Blue Shield for our Child Development Program as well as Northern Trust for our Youth Services Program at Piccolo Elementary School in West Humboldt Park! Additionally, in a grant administered by LISC (Local Initiatives Support Corporation Chicago) as part of Get IN Chicago and the Public Safety Action Committee' s 2013 Chicago Summer Youth Fund, Chicago Commons collaborated with Youth Service Project on the "Youth Rise UP" Summit Saturday, August 24.
  • We are grateful for these new funders to Chicago Commons that will have significant impact on our work in child care and youth services.

While we celebrate our great accomplishments this summer, there is always work to be done. We encourage you to deepen your commitment and get involved, so we have an even more successful fall.

Sincerely,
