What else can we do to support Nepali Earthquake victims beyond giving money?

As a humanitarian relief measure, advocacy organizations and legislative offices have asked for designation of Nepal for Temporary Protected Status (TPS), a status commonly granted to countries impacted by natural disaster. A TPS designation would protect Nepalese immigrants in the U.S. from deportation and grant work authorization to allow them to send remittances to Nepal. Over 100 South Asian and immigration advocacy groups, including the South Asian Bar Association of North America, signed on to a letter asking the Secretary of Homeland Security to designate Nepal for TPS. A petition to the White House requesting that President Obama grant TPS also has been circulating and is still in need of signatures to meet the required 100,000 signature threshold. Finally, thirteen members of Congress--led by Reps. Al Green and Mike Honda--have introduced H.R. 2033, which proposes granting TPS for 18-months to Nepalese in the U.S.

Unfortunately the Secretary of Homeland Security and the White House have not taken any action or indicated that they would provide such a designation.
