June 29, 2015

Dear Friends,

We are so pleased to welcome Cantor Rayna Green to the BJBE clergy team. Cantor Green's first day is this Wednesday and she will be conducting services both Friday evening and Saturday morning. So start your 4th of July weekend with a beautiful service and then enjoy the magnificent fireworks display that Deerfield is putting on in Cantor Green's honor! Please note that there is no Torah Study this Saturday following Kol Shabbat.

We are excited to roll out a new vision for our Sustaining Gifts Program: Support, Sustain, Imagine. Please look for information provided with your July statement. T
he Sustaining Gifts Program (formerly Love Thy Neighbor) offers you the opportunity to make a monetary contribution beyond your annual dues that will give us the boost we need to:

* Support our members in financial crises, our congregational community

* Sustain our congregation's current innovative programs and commitment to provide opportunities for meaning and purpose

* Imagine our future with new technology and programming allowing our community to uphold our devotion to Jewish ideals from generation to generation

For more information contact Marti Greenberg

SOCIAL ACTION NETWORK

Do you remember the excitement of opening that new box of crayons on the first day of school? Recall the thrill of sporting that new backpack? For many of the families served by JCFS (Jewish Child and Family Services) the expense of preparing a child for the new school year is beyond their means. They struggle to pay rent and keep food on the table. These caring parents value education  - they want to see their children enter the new school year prepared and proud. So BJBE's Early Childhood Center and Sisterhood are joining together to support the JCFS School Supply Drive.A JCFS collection box is in the Tzedakah Nook.To make a monetary donation or if you have questions, please contact Sharon SabinFor the month of July we will be collecting the following items:

June Tzedakah
Help us to help the most vulnerable in the Houston community devastated by the flooding. Over 11 inches of rain fell in some spots of Houston overnight and into the next day -- inundating byways and highways, slowing first responders, knocking out power and generally bringing the southeast Texas metropolis to a standstill. Hardest hit was Meyerland, Bellaire and Willow Meadows where so many in our community have lost everything. It will take days to assess damages and many months to recover and rebuild. The Jewish Federation of Greater Houston is mobilizing a community response to provide aid and support for people devastated by the May 26 flood. We are here to help individuals, families and our Jewish institutions, which sustained substantial damage.
CARING COMMUNITY

BJBE's Caring Community is a team of volunteers who can act as your extended family when your family needs additional support.  Caring Community provides the following services: home delivered meals in times of need, transportation to/from temple or a medical appointment, phone support for people who are ill or lonely, senior education and caregiver support, chicken or vegetable soups (always available in the kitchen!) and a virtual food pantry.  To access these services confidentially, please call Gloria Kaiz at 847-945-3741.

BJBE is certified as a Safer Synagogue by Jewish Community Abuse Resources, Education & Solutions (JCARES). Our leadership has been trained in understanding the impact of abuse across the lifespan and improving access to support for congregants experiencing abusive situations. For more information, please contact the clergy at 847-940-7575.
