This Lent, Add Instead of Subtract

"Whatever you choose - adding or subtracting - the point is to do something that feeds your soul without draining your energy or making you resent the time. Be realistic, keep it simple and enjoy!"

A Conversation

Many years ago I explained to my rector that I didn't like giving up something for Lent. "I don't quite see the connection," I said. "What does giving up chocolate have to do with my spiritual life?" Wise man that he was, and still is, he replied, "There may not be a connection for you. Why don't you take on something instead?"

Avodah Begins Wed. 2/25

Our Lenten Wed. night program begins next Wed. afternoon at 5:30 pm with children's activities and choir. There will be snacks, and a soup, bread and salad supper supplied for everyone.

After supper, we'll divide into choir and study groups, with a study offered by Fr. Nathan Jennings, our Theologian in Residence,  and choir work with Sara Burden McClure, our beloved Music Director. We invite parents to come and sing with the choir for Easter Music. Sara has chosen some music that you will thoroughly enjoy singing. It's a short-term commitment with something for everyone here this Lenten season.

Meet Cindy Riley

Cindy Riley is our Nursery attendant, and she's been with us for almost two years, now. Many people would be surprised to learn that she comes to us through an agency. After many years of trying unsuccessfully to hire an attendant, we did as numerous other churches do: we consulted with an  agency. After trying one or two candidates initially, they sent "our Cindy." She is very experienced and has worked with churches before coming to Resurrection.

Cindy doesn't just sit in the nursery and watch; she engages with the children and keeps them busy with games and play. She is, as all workers with children in the Diocese of Texas must be, certified in Safe Guarding God's Children. Although she may work occasionally during the week at other churches, we aren't letting her get away from us here. Thanks so much to Cindy and Thanks be to God, for her good work with our children.

Drive A Senior
Volunteer Opportunity

Drive A Senior - North Central is a neighborhood - based non-profit agency that provides free transportation and other support services for persons over the age of 60 living in north central Austin. There is no financial qualification to use Drive A Senior's services. Anyone age 60 or over who lives in our service area can call for transportation and other assistance. All our services are provided by volunteers.

This is where you come in. We are actively recruiting new volunteer drivers. Retired persons or stay-at-home moms are especially needed, as most of our drives occur during weekday hours. Volunteers must attend a one-hour orientation, have a valid driver's license, current liability insurance and pass a criminal background check. We also provide additional liability insurance for all our volunteers.

If you have 3 hours a month to help get a senior to the grocery store or doctor, we can use your help. Someone you know needs Drive A Senior. Please call us at 512-453-2273.
