 Have you ever wondered how CAWP provides detailed, up-to-the-minute information about women candidates and officeholders from the state legislatures on up? The magic occurs in the office of information services manager Gilda Morales. She and her interns gather, tabulate and report it all - and you can help! If you hear about a special election, a woman appointed to fill a vacancy, a death in office, or a woman getting ready to run, shoot Gilda an email ([email protected]). Then, when you see your information incorporated into our online data, you can bask in the knowledge that you're a part of Gilda's team. Thanks!

Ready to Run? Register Right Away!

Thinking of running for office in NJ? Or working on a campaign? CAWP invites you to Ready to Run™, a bi-partisan training program for women who want to run for office, seek higher office, work on a campaign, get appointed to office, or learn more about the political system in New Jersey. The program offers a unique opportunity to hear directly from prominent elected and appointed leaders, campaign consultants, and party officials about how to get ready to run. Topics covered include fundraising, navigating the political parties, working with the media, and developing a campaign plan. Ready to Run ™ will take place on Friday, March 21st and Saturday, March 22nd at the Douglass Campus Center, Rutgers-New Brunswick. Register by February 7, 2014 and receive a special early bird registration rate.  Bing celebrated the end of 2013 by celebrating "heroic women." Take a look at their picks! After a month of articles on the theme "Women Rule," Politico offers its list of political women to watch in 2014. And Cosmopolitan has its own version, 20 Women to Watch in Politics in 2014. Thanks, Politico and Cosmo - CAWP will certainly be watching these and many more via our Election Watch! Where are we watching women running? Texas and West Virginia, just to name two.
Just when you think we're making progress, we learn about where we aren't. Like Kentucky, which ranks 37 th among the states for the proportion of women in its legislature, a body that includes no African-American women and hasn't since 2000!
