The Training Portal lists all CDD-funded trainings and provides a direct link to early care and education/child development departments at California Community College and California State Universities. Through this Portal, you can search for current trainings and online coursework by specific criteria such as topic, date, and areas of specialization.

CARES PROGRAM 2013

The CARES 2013 Orientations are going on now!

Please join us!

The CARES Program invites all Early Care Educators to attend a 2013 Orientation. If you are interested in participating in and receiving a stipend for the 2013 CARES year, you must attend an orientation and complete a 2013 application on site. Applications will only be accepted at orientations. Orientations will be scheduled through December 2013. Visit our calendar of events for times and locations. Please note: All stipends are based on funding availability. The next orientation is Wednesday, August 14 at 6:30 pm at Child Action (9800 Old Winery Place). Call (916) 369-0191 to register.

CARES Requirements

Child Action Resource and Referral Staff are here for you!

If you have already been to an orientation this year, you should receive a call from one of our Child Action staff members. Make note of your contact's name. This person is your personal contact for any and all questions you may have about CARES. We want to ensure that all participants are thinking about and planning for their educational and professional goals.

Do you need a Child Development Permit?

CSUS will be hosting a total of four permit workshops this coming semester. Two will be held on the CSUS campus and one at Child Action.

Friday, October 11 and Monday, December 16, permit workshops will be from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at CSUS, 6000 J St. Room to be announced. CSUS will also lead a permit workshop here at Child Action (9800 Old Winery Place) on Thursday, December 5 in the evening, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

All CARES applicants with more than 6 ECE units must have or apply for a permit before December 31 to qualify for a stipend. If this is your first time applying for a permit, this is a great opportunity for assistance.   ECE faculty are also available to assist with the application process for students. Contact your college CARES liaison for more information.

You may qualify for a reimbursement for permit fees! To find out, go to the Child Development Training Consortium website www.childdevelopment.org or ask your campus CARES liaison.

Environmental Assessments

You only need an assessment if you are a returning CARES recipient (have received a stipend) and work in a private child care center or family child care home. An observer will contact you to schedule an assessment. Assessments are scheduled in the morning and take about three hours to complete including a 30 minute interview with the teacher or the director. If you have questions or would like to receive a copy of the scale, please contact Child Action, Inc. Applicants working in publicly-funded programs are not required to submit an assessment. Assessments conducted by Beanstalk or the Preschool Bridging Model (PBM) do not meet the CARES environmental assessment requirement.

College Accreditation

Please be sure your college, university or online institution is a nationally accredited college. We are not able to give stipends for units earned at non-accredited institutions or institutions on probation. To check your school, search by institution name in the box on the far right here:
