Youth Voices Through Dance

Luna Dance Institute announces a revival of its powerful teen choreography series this fall. Believing that dance is a powerful medium for the underrepresented to speak, Luna's comprehensive teen program transforms technical studio dancers

into skilled choreographers.

During its peak in the late 1990s, dancing youth created solos, duets, trios, quartets and larger group works and performed them alongside their adult peers in local showcases, at conferences and in mixed art venues. They spoke about developing leadership skills through dance at wellness conferences and participated in the one-on-one mentoring program JUMP! With local professionals, teen mentees attended professional rehearsals, company class and shadowed teachers as their individual interests emerged.

Luna's renewed Teen Choreography Workshop promises a dynamic dance-making experience that focuses on honing the choreographic voices of teen artists. Mining the elements of dance - space, time and energy - through the work of Rudolf von Laban, explorations in partnering, prop-work, musicality and syncopation, teens will choreograph and edit solos, duets and group works for multiple performance opportunities throughout the year.
Beginning September 14th, this foundation course of the Teen Choreography Workshop series will be offered Saturday mornings from 10am-noon.

Veteran teacher/mentor and Luna Dance Institute founder, Patricia Reedy, will pair with choreographer/performer, Deborah Karp to teach the class. Dancers with one year or more of study in any style or genre are invited to apply.
