Be Proud! Be Responsible! Workshop - The Westland Youth Assistance Program invites youths between the ages of 12yrs -18yrs to attend their Be Proud!  Be Responsible! Workshop on Saturday, September 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Dorsey Center located at 32715 Dorsey.  Participants will discuss how to make responsible choices about sex and relationships and gain valuable information about pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.  This free workshop will also include snacks, lunch, prizes and a free gift card.  Please RSVP by calling Westland Youth Assistance Program at (734)467-7904.

 

Throwing Strikes for Westland Historic Village Park - Bowling enthusiasts are encouraged to attend "Throwing Strikes for the Westland Historic Village Park" at Vision Lanes located at 38250 Ford Road on Saturday, September 28th from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Tickets are $20 for advanced purchase and $25 at the door.  Tickets include 3 games, free shoe rental, 2 slices of pizza and a 12 oz soda.  There will also be a 50/50 raffle, door prizes and more.  For more information, call Ryan at (734)756-0769.

 

19th Annual Motor City Chapter 2368 Toy Run - All Bikers are invited to the 19th Annual Motor City Chapter 2368 Toy Run on Sunday, September 29.  Check in is at Westland City Hall located at 36601 Ford Rd and will run from 10:00 a.m. to noon.  Proceeds will benefit the Motor City Chapter 2368 Scholarship Fund and the children of Westland through the Westland Community Foundation.  The escorted ride leaves promptly at 12:30 p.m. and will end at Joy Manor located at 28999 Joy Rd.  The cost is $10 per person with an unwrapped toy or $15 without.  Lunch will be served and there will also be a 50/50 raffle, door prizes and auctions.


Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location.

-There will be a meeting of the Westland Planning Commission on Tuesday, October 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Council Chambers in Westland City Hall located at 36601 Ford Rd.


Westland Farmer's Market Held Every Thursday - The Westland Farmer's Market will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. every Thursday in the City Hall Parking Lot, located at 36601 Ford Road.  This is the ultimate site for farmers, growers and producers to sell their own products directly to the public.  Residents now have the opportunity to catch a FREE ride to the market at the following locations and times. *All times are approximate and dependent on weather, traffic, available space, etc.

Cyclists, Skaters, Runners & Walkers Enjoy Hines Park Traffic Free - Saturday's in the Park have returned to Hines Drive and offers visitors the opportunity to walk, run, skate or cycle safely from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. without the concern of motor vehicle traffic.  Hines Drive will be closed every Saturday from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive through September 28, 2013.  For more information, please call (734) 261-1990 or visit www.parks.waynecounty.com.

 

Fire Prevention Week - The Westland Fire Department is reminding everyone that October is National Fire Prevention Month.  Westland's Fire Prevention Week is Sunday, October 6 - Saturday, October 12.  This week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire in 1871.  You can visit www.fpw.org for more information on fire safety.
