Newburgh Project in Westland Gets Approval
Westland, MI - On Monday, January 6, 2014, at the first Westland City Council Meeting of the new year, City Council members approved a contract with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) for resurfacing work along Newburgh Road.

The resurfacing project will consist of work along Newburgh Road from Palmer Road to Cherry Hill and will include concrete pavement repair, a sidewalk ramp and pavement marking.

"We are pleased to be partnered with MDOT to maintain good, working conditions of our roads and sidewalks. With these harsh Michigan winters taking a toll on our roads, it is important to be able to keep up with the resurfacing demands," said Mayor William Wild.

The total estimated cost of the project is $710,500 with federal funds paying $581,500. This will leave the city with a bill of $129,000 for the resurfacing project.

The pre-construction meetings are slated to begin in mid-January with resurfacing scheduled to commence in May of 2014 and completed by early July of 2014. There is also a separate project for road reconstruction and traffic signal work on Cherry Hill Road, west of Newburgh, that is slated to start in early July of 2014, and is expected to be completed by mid-October, 2014.  The two projects are being coordinated to provide the least impact on traffic and motorists.
