The Russell Sage College Habitat for Humanity travelled to New Orleans during their spring break. We spent part of our week working on a project called a "Brush with Kindness". Our group painted two houses and built two fences in 2 and ½ days. The group also spent one day working in the Habitat for Humanity Restore. At the end of the week we joined over 200 college students from various colleges in the U.S. for "Attack the Block" project. During the afternoon the groups cleared 26 tires, filled 266 trash bags, cleared 23 lots, cleaned 28 storm drains, built 20 garden beds, seeded 14 garden beds, delivered 86 bundles of produce and filled one thirty yard dumpster. At the end of Attack the Block we were given the report of the collective effort of the college students (RSC included) volunteering in New Orleans that week and this is what was accomplished together: raised the walls on two houses, sheathed the walls on one house, set the trusses on one house, painted two houses, dug three foundations, built four fences and poured one sidewalk.
Congratulations to our new Student Government and E-Board members!
