Things at King's: Intent to Register

 

It's that time of year again for you to decide your next step at King's. From February 1st - March 31st, students coming back to King's for the 2014-2015 academic year will have to complete an Intent to Register. Please read below for important details from the Academic Dean's Office.

 

Starbucks and Tim Hortons

Aramark is excited to offer both Starbucks and Tim Hortons on campus now! The hours of operation are: 

 

Starbucks in Labatt Hall
Monday - Thursday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Friday: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday: Closed

 

Tim Hortons in King Centre

Monday - Thursday: 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Saturday: Closed

Sunday: 1 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Program Counselling Early Bird Sessions
 

Get a jump on Spring Program Counselling! Attend the session on Thursday, January 30th, 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. in LH 101.

 

The Academic Counsellors will discuss:

  • how to do an Intent to Register (ITR)
  • module combinations and degree types
  • breadth requirements
  • progression requirements 
  • summer school

Intent to Register

You will receive an email before the end of January explaining that during the Intent to Register (ITR) period, from February 1 - March 31, you will be asked to go online to indicate your chosen Faculty, degree program and modules for next year. 

 

Your questions will be addressed during Program Counselling (Feb. 3rd - 14th), which you are expected to attend. This will include sessions conducted by:  

  • the various academic departments, giving detailed information on their disciplines 
  • the Dean's Office academic counsellors on degree requirements (how to submit your online ITR, how to choose and combine Majors, Minors, Specializations, how to cover Breadth and Essay requirements, how to know if your grades make you eligible for admission to the program you want, how to sign up for summer courses and so on)
  • the Faculties of Law and Education (Teachers' College) on future entry into their programs
  • Faculty members will be available in their offices during their regular office hours to answer questions arising from these sessions. 

Please watch for the email which will include the Program Counselling schedule and online Intent to Register web links and plan to attend these important information sessions. There will be no one-on-one program counselling during this period, though the academic counsellors will continue to be available for other kinds of consultation during drop-in hours.

Students in need for Mental Health and Wellness Focus Group! 

 

Mental Health and Wellness are major concerns on campus and we are looking for your help to determine how to improve the support services available at King's.

 

You are invited to participate in a Student Focus Group to provide your input. Groups will meet for approximately one to one and a half hours and all responses are confidential. There are six dates to choose from. 

 

If you are able to help us, please click here and sign up for a session. Dates include January 29th and 31st, and February 3rd, 5th, and 7th. Times are listed on the sign up sheet.

 

Refreshments will be served and your name will be entered in a draw to win a prize.

King's Cultural Festival
 

King's Cultural Festival is the largest multicultural event on campus. It features up to 100 performers, cultural booths and draws up to 300 attendees. 

 

The event will take place on Thursday, February 6th, 2014, 7:00-10:00 p.m. in Darryl J. King Student Life Centre. All are welcome!

First Career Session for International Students on January 29th
 

Attend Group Career Counselling Sessions for help and guidance in finding and keeping employment in Canada. Co-hosted by King's Counselling & Student Development and King's International.

 

Participants: 15 undergraduate and graduate International students looking for non-academic employment in Canada


Topics: Understanding the cultural context of working in Canada, identifying skills employers value, job search and self promotion strategies, creating effective resumes and maintaining employment 

 

Length: This program consists of six sessions, each 2 hours in length (participants must attend all six sessions)

 

Time and Location: Wednesdays, 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. (January 29th, February 5th, 12th and 26th, and March 5th and 19th) in the Instruction Room, Cardinal Carter Library

Centre for Creativity: Call for Actors!
 

Call for Actors! Rehearsed Reading with Jeff Culbert

The Centre for Creativity invites student actors to participate in a rehearsed and staged reading of Choose But Choose Wisely, under the direction of well-known London playwright, actor, dramaturge and director Jeff Culbert, on February 25th, at 4:30 p.m., Joanne and Peter Kenny Theatre, King Centre.

 

Number of actors needed: FIVE (ideally, one female role, and four male roles). All the actors who will participate in the readings MUST make themselves available for rehearsals on February 17th, 20th and 24th, from around 3:30 p.m. to around 9:00 p.m., as well as for the staged reading on February 25th at 4:30 p.m. (The exact times for the rehearsals will be decided by the group.) If interested, please contact Dawna.

  

 

Call for Participants! Script Analysis for Theatre: a workshop with Jeff Culbert

The Centre for Creativity invites students to participate in a workshop on Script Analysis for Actors and Directors with well-known London playwright, actor, dramaturge and director Jeff Culbert. Successful directing and acting require the ability to make good decisions, and this workshop is about how to analyze a script and get the most out of it. The emphasis will be on interpreting the text, recognizing options and making the most interesting and effective choices.

 

Maximum number of workshop participants: FIVE

Length of the play: 80 minutes

 

All the participants MUST make themselves available for the workshop and rehearsals on February 17th, 20th and 24th, from 3:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and for the staging of the play on February 25th at 4:30 p.m. At the focus of the workshop will be Mr. Culbert's original play, Choose But Choose Wisely, and the workshop participants are welcome to join the group of five actors who will be working towards a rehearsed and staged reading of the play on February 25th, at 4:30 p.m. If interested, please contact Dawna.

The 2014 Ontario Global Edge Internship Program
 
Interested in entrepreneurship? Would you like to intern with a small/medium size business in India or Kenya this summer? The Ontario Global Edge internship program is now accepting applications for nine intern spots.

 

Ontario Global Edge aims to:

  • Enable participants to develop a broader awareness of the global economy
  • Encourage enterprising Ontario youth to explore international business
  • Illustrate the importance of entrepreneurs and opportunities for small and medium sized businesses within a global marketplace
  • Build and expand an entrepreneurial awareness among post-secondary students and institutions

 

Internships will range in length between 12 to 16 weeks.  Selected Ontario Global Edge participants will receive up to $4,000 to support the costs associated with the unpaid internship, funded by the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment.
