UPCOMING EVENTS
Enjoy Every Sandwich: An Evening of Warren Zevon for Rikki Hall
March 20th, 7pm at Scruffy City Hall, $5

Proceeds to benefit Little River Watershed Association

Rikki Hall, longtime advocate for the Little River, was diagnosed with a brain tumor last winter. His friends in the music community have pulled together to throw him a tribute concert, and now it is Hall's wish that the proceeds of this concert benefit the Little River Watershed Association.

Hall's writing, both through his column at Metro Pulse, as well as through his work with Hellbender Press, garnered the attention of those who might not otherwise think that the Little River and its inhabitants needed protecting. He wrote about a range of subjects, but we will remember him best, and be forever grateful, for the work he did to keep folks in our region informed about the Little River and its threats.

"We are deeply touched that Hall would choose to benefit the Little River Watershed Association," said Kim Raia, board chair. "It's quite an honor to be recognized by someone who we admire so greatly. We thank him for all he's done to help people understand the issues affecting the Little River, and how people can help."

Though at first his outlook seemed promising, the tumor is now inoperable. We're asking all our supporters to help us pay a special tribute to this special member of our community. Starting at 7 p.m. on March 20 at Scruffy City Hall, some of Rikki's musician friends will be playing the songs of Warren Zevon, who is a musician Rikki loves, who died from an aggressive form of cancer. Shortly before he died, Zevon was asked for some parting advice. His reply: "Enjoy every sandwich."

As of now, the lineup for the show includes the Tim Lee 3, the Greg Horne Band, Itchy Bruddah (aka, Phil Fuson), the French, and Jack Rentfro and the Apocalypso Quartet. Lee, Horne, and Hudson K's Christina Horn will also form a house band of sorts, with which R.B. Morris, Kevin Abernathy, Chris Durman, Sonja Spell, and Daniel Kimbro will sing. More musical guests will be announced soon.

SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
LRWA is excited to be coordinating three sponsored community events that will raise funds for our organization.  These events will enlist our community stakeholders and volunteers in fun, informative ways, while bringing awareness to river conservation and stewardship. All event participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt.

We are looking for businesses, organizations and individuals to help us by sponsoring these events. We hope you will consider joining other community supporters who recognize the benefit of having a local watershed organization working to protect a valuable economic and natural resource. Sponsorships are a great way to advertise, and LRWA is committed to ensuring that the community is aware of your valuable support.

Little River 101--A Big Turn Out
Feb.18th, Little River 101
LRWA hosted this year's first Little River 101 event in February. Over 50 people attended to hear about how some communities in the southeast are addressing aging small impoundments.  Our invited panel addressed positives of dam removal and conversely, the historical and cultural relevance of the structures. Thanks to our panelists representing Harpeth River Watershed Association, Conservation Fisheries, American Rivers, US Fish and Wildlife, Maryville College, and University of Tennessee.
