NEW VOICES FESTIVAL - PLAYS ANNOUNCED!

Griot Theatre's Inaugural
New Voices Festival

We are excited to announce the new play selections for Griot Theatre's inaugural New Voices Play Festival:

TOUCH TOUR by Todd Bauer
Friday, March 28 at 8pm
When he ventures out for his first-ever trip to the theatre, Cody meets Vivika, an engaging audio describer and potentially Cody's soul mate.  In order to win Vivika's affection, he enlists his best friend to charade as his blind brother, and ultimately discovers more about Vivika - and life - than he initially expected.

Todd Bauer is a blind playwright, director, and lecturer who currently lives in Chicago, IL.

THE FINEST THING by Malik B. El-Amin
Saturday, March 29 at 8pm

Set in St. Louis during the early nineties, the play follows Heru as he spends the winter break from college at the home of his sometime-girlfriend Khet and her family. While Khet struggles to define her relationship with Heru and confronts the failing health of her grandfather, Heru raises suspicion with his frequent late-night visits to East St. Louis. The arrival of a mysterious visitor propels the play toward its tragic conclusion.

Malik B. El-Amin is an actor, director, and co-founder of Griot Theatre.

ARTIST PROFILE CORNER
Catching up with
DEVEREAU CHUMRAU

Griot Theatre audiences may remember Devereau Chumrau from her winning portrayal of multiple characters in
Julius Caesar
during our inaugural season. She played Metellus Cimber, Flavius, Lucilius and other characters. Deverau's versatility as an actor did not stop with our production. We recently caught up with her and here's what she had to say about her recent work:

"In January I closed a fantastically well received 5 week production of The Mystery Plays by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (playwright of the Broadway Musical "American Psycho, and screenwriter for Glee, Carrie) with the Visceral Company. And a few weeks later opened another show! Currently I am working on Lovecraft: Nightmare Suite, which is in its 2nd run. Back by popular demand, we've been getting great reviews! That show closes on Mar 2, 3pm at the Lex Theatre. Lastly, I'm currently writing and starring in (like most LA actors) a sketch comedy web series (still untitled) with my fellow actor partner Amy Urbina. We start production next week!"
