Kindergarten Update

The church is again full of life on a daily basis as Pre-School and Kindergarten are in full swing.  Orientation last Tuesday night generated a lot of enthusiasm for using Kroger Gift Cards as a way of helping to raise money for the school and generated a lot of interest in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program.  Seven parents also signed up to help with forming a "booster club" that will look at other ways to raise money and support the school.

Via Media

On Wednesday, September 4, at 6:00 pm we began a six-week educational series for people who would like to be confirmed, for those who would like more information about the Episcopal Church, and for those who want to participate and lend support.  We are using the DVD-enhanced program entitled "Via Media"--the term adopted by Queen Elizabeth I to describe the Anglican faith.  We are people of the "Middle Way."  We believe that we can hold together a broad spectrum of belief within one faith community--we can share "communion"--literally and metaphorically--with those with whom we disagree.  The group is meeting in the Gaither Room, and all are welcome.  It's not too late to join--we can easily make up missed sessions.

The Bishop will be with us on October 13 and will do confirmations at that time.

Youth Group

Yesterday, Sunday, September 8, after church, we had the first meeting of our new Youth Group.  Misti French will be facilitating this group--with assistance from Eva Akpom, Sue-Anne Savoir and Jessica Shepherd.  We had some conversation about potential service activities which will be one focus of the group--and some conversation about potential recreational activities.  All four youth members, as well as Misti, are planning to be confirmed on October 13, so for the upcoming Sundays, we will be viewing some Via Media sections and discussing questions concerning our Christian faith as Anglicans.  We will be working on recruiting more members for the group.  If there are any others of you who would like to be confirmed but are unable to come on Wednesday nights, please feel free to join us after church on Sundays through October 6.

Military Welcome Home

The Missions Group is sponsoring a Welcome Home ceremony for returning Fort Campbell soldiers.  We are not certain exactly when this event will be, but it is a way we can welcome the deployed soldiers and thank them for their sacrifice and diligence in doing a tough, dangerous mission.  Our job is to host this event which includes serving refreshments, talking with the waiting family members and greeting the returning soldiers.  Typically these events are on very short notice and can be any time of the day or night.  I (Tom Brewer) have personally worked on several of the Welcome Homes and have found them to be one of the most rewarding experiences I've been involved with.  This is a way that we, Grace Church, can reach out to our military community and also honor our own Grace Church military family members.  If you are interested in participating, see me or call 484-1543 for more information.  Thanks!  Tom

Kroger Gift Cards

Please join with us in supporting our Kindergarten and Pre-School by purchasing a Kroger Gift Card from the church for $5, loading it up with additional money at Kroger, and using it for all your Kroger purchases.  I (Alice) read in Sunday's Nashville Tennessean that there are schools in Nashville that have earned around $10,000 per year through this Kroger program.  We can do it, too!  Contact Tom Schmidt for cards.
