Greetings scholars,

Welcome to Week 1 of the spring quarter!  I hope you all had a great spring break, and that you are excited for what's to come this quarter.  Although it's the first week of the quarter, it's a great time to start thinking and preparing for summer internships, and other opportunities.  This issue is dedicated to connecting you with opportunities to do just that.

There are also some upcoming volunteer opportunities to meet and connect with admitted students and their families at Triton Day and Transfer Triton Day.  If you're interested in volunteering, please click here no later than this Friday, April 3rd by noon.

As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at casp@ucsd.edu, (858) 822-6740 or stop by the CASP office.

All my best,

Belinda Zamacona

sacnasSociety for Advancement of Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) | Academic Opportunity

SACNAS cordially invites you to the October 29-31 2015 SACNAS National Conference in Washington, DC. This year's theme, "Interdisciplinary Collaboration: The Role of Diversity in STEM Innovation," honors the research, talent, and creativity of the diverse and interdisciplinary SACNAS community.

Students have the opportunity to present their research  and to apply for travel scholarships. Presenting at 2015 SACNAS provides invaluable experience while receiving meaningful mentoring from professional scientists. The travel scholarship alleviates financial burden by covering students' air travel and lodging expenses.

Summer Application Periods

All eligible undergraduate students, post-baccalaureates, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers may apply during the summer. Students who already applied during the spring will not have their application reviewed during the summer. Students in a summer research program will have priority during the summer application period. You are encouraged to apply if you are participating in a summer program.

To verify participation in a summer program, you will need to input the following information on their application(s):

  • Program name
  • Host institution
  • Program director/manager name and email

SACNAS does not accept late applications or allow students to resubmit abstract or travel scholarship applications. Preliminary data is acceptable in the abstract submission.

Visit the SACNAS Travel Scholarships and Student Research Presentations for additional information. SACNAS is here to support you and your students during this process. Feel free to contact us with questions. Make sure to share this information with your students when the time comes.
