City Announces Strategic Financial Planning Series

Westland, MI - Mayor William Wild will host a strategic planning session on Saturday, February 22 at the Dynamic Diagnostics Inc. Building, located at 35400 Central City Parkway along with the members of The Westland City Council in an open session. The session begins at 9:30 am and will run until 12:30 pm. A second session is also scheduled for March 1.

The strategy sessions will be an opportunity to discuss the City's priorities in the year ahead. The agenda for February 22nd will primarily focus on large cost issues that will impact Westland in the short-run, including road and sidewalk projects, a water meter replacement program, and the Ford Road City Hall site.

The March 1st session will focus on the City's long-term unfunded liabilities, including unfunded healthcare costs for retirees and future employees, and unfunded retirement costs, will also be topics of discussion. Additional presentations will focus on the Tattan Park Ranger Program, Farmer's Market, new state assessment requirements, and the Dorsey Center/Jefferson Barnes Elementary remodeling project.

Mayor William Wild will also recap the success of past strategy sessions, which helped the City turn a projected five year $32 million deficit into a surplus.

"Prior strategic planning sessions have been highly beneficial to Westland," said Mayor Wild, "These sessions help determine our priorities, identify potential problems, and move forward with solutions, and engaging the community in the process."

The strategy session is open to the public, and residents are encouraged to attend and share their input.  Detailed agendas are available at the Clerk's Office in Westland City Hall located at 36601 Ford Rd.
