Be at the National Press Club on Dec. 10 from 9:30am to 10:45am ET for a provocative look at how changing demographics in the years ahead will affect four major aspects of our lives: transportation, the workforce, housing, and civic involvement. At the event, we will release our latest signature report and poll results and host a panel discussion featuring experts on the four topics. Generations United Board Member Walter Jones (Verizon) will serve as emcee and Ron Brownstein (National Journal) will moderate a panel discussion. Panel members will include: Angela Glover-Blackwell (PolicyLink), Vanessa Cardenas (Center for American Progress), William Frey (Brookings Institution), and Eugene Steuerle (Urban Institute). Featured speakers will include: Hilary Pennington (Ford Foundation and The Generations Initiative) and Donna Butts (Generations United).

Marian Wright Edelman Fires Up Intergenerational Warriors

Marian Wright Edelman's pep talk earlier this week came from a different place. It wasn't the usual eloquent orations of a gifted speaker, whose decades of fighting for disadvantaged Americans earned her the status of a civil rights legend. Instead, she delivered her appeal as a grandmother. "I love my grandchildren," she told a packed room at the Gray Panthers' National Convention in D.C. "They have re-radicalized me all over again." Edelman re-radicalized the Gray Panthers, charging them to be "pit bulls up there on the hill" for young people. "You are the indispensable," she said. "You're the most talented and educated generation of grandparents and advocates." Afterwards, the Gray Panthers made Edelman an honorable member and presented her with their social justice award.

Webinar Set for Grandfamilies Raising Children with Disabilities

As you probably know, we recently published a new booklet called Grand Resources: A Grandparent's and Other Relative's Guide to Raising Children with Disabilities. On Nov. 14, the guide's author -- our own Ana Beltran -- will host a webinar at 2:00pm ET during which she will answer the most frequently asked questions about resources available to those raising children with disabilities. Collective Impact Takes on Teen Pregnancy

The term "collective impact" is thrown around in nonprofit circles. This innovative strategy, involving the use of teamwork to tackle complex problems, continues to spur interest across the country. Annual Awards Recognizes Intergenerational Program

Episcopal Retirement Homes' Council for Life Long Engagement (CLLE) was among the winners of the 2013 LeadingAge Awards, which recognizes individuals and organizations expanding the possibility for aging. Stamping out ageism one child at a time, CLLE brings elders in the class room to teach school children about marketing, health and dining etiquette. Learn more.

Enter the Fourth Worldwide Storytelling Contest

The Intergeneration Foundation, a sponsor of

Intergeneration Month: September, wants to reinforce and recognize the power of storytelling as a way to connect all ages. As part of that effort, it invites people of all ages to submit an intergeneration story to its Fourth Worldwide Storytelling Contest. Deadline for submissions is Dec. 31, 2013. Learn more

I'm honored to join Generations United, whose ambitious work and risk-taking is analogous to Theodore Roosevelt's adventurous soul. "Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure," according to our 26th President, "... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat." It's obvious there are no gray twilights for Generations United.
