Burger Thang, Presented by Neue Haus Detroit

Around 1982 a small group of kids would meet at a 'hole in the wall' around the corner of Cass Avenue and Willis called the Freezer Theatre. Out of this petri dish came the bands Negative Approach, The Necros, The Meatmen and Bored Youth. This exhibition reunites three members of the group, Matt O'Brien, Chris Moore and Greg Bokor.The public opening and artist talk takes place Friday, May 29 at 7pm. Music starts at 8pm with DJ's, Keep on Trash. Burgers and drinks will be available. A donation of $5 is suggested.

Three women artists take on the subject of DETROIT ICONS! Representing that which deeply conveys the imagery and importance of certain subjects about Detroit. Photography will be the discipline featured by Michele Lundgren and Donita Simpson while Deborah Marlowe Kashdan will use the medium of painting.

Cave is pleased to present Positions by Cortney Andrews. Working with dancers, Andrews choreographs scenarios that reflect on the nature of physical and psychological boundaries. In her videos, photographs and texts, she explores the complexities of desire as a state of pleasure, frustration, power, and uncertainty.

Michael Stone-Richards is professor in the department of Liberal Arts, College for Creative Studies, Detroit where he teaches Critical Theory and Visual Studies. He has published widely in English and French on the history and critical theory of the avant-garde and contemporary art practices. He is also the founding editor of Detroit Research.
