graduationMAY 28: 5th Grade Promotion and Reception Info
On Thursday May 28, we have the following celebrations planned:
  • 8-9am: 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony in the auditorium
  • 9-10am: 5th Grade Reception in the cafeteria
To help ensure that all parents can have space in the space limited auditorium, we can only allow for 2 people per family to attend. (We have explored the possibility of using other spaces, but the barrier is that many schools in the district are holding similar events, so space and equipment are both very limited.)

Following the reception, some families may choose to take their 5th graders out for a celebration, but there are also many students who stay behind and have a lighter afternoon of school. If you choose to leave early with your child, be sure to sign them out in the office!

prop13PROP 13 REFORM: Sign the Petition Today & Support Our Schools!
This is an issue which has negatively impacted California schools and students for the last 47 years and it is time to change that. As citizens and parents, I ask you to get involved and sign this petition and share it with your community.

Here is more from a group leading the reform charge, Evolve California:

Proposition 13 was passed in 1978 to protect homeowners. Unfortunately, Prop. 13 created massive loopholes for corporations, allowing them to avoid paying fair property taxes even when their properties change hands. This large corporate giveaway hurts homeowners, students, and all Californians. We need to close the loophole and make corporations pay their fair share. According to the Legislative Analyst's Office, requiring corporations to pay property taxes based on the current value of their properties would generate at least $6 billion each year for California, including $2.5 billion per year for education.

nepal Continuing Miraloma's Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund
This community is amazing! We have raised over $4,000 from Miraloma families, about $500 of which came from the donation jar in the school office! Our students have been so sweet and thoughtful about putting some of their piggy bank money in the jar for the kids in Nepal. As the need still exists, we'll keep the jar going until the end of the school year.

All jar donations thus far have been donated to the Ama Foundation. You can read an article mentioning the kids at Miraloma helping the kids in Nepal: http://www.ama-foundation.org/kids-helping-kids/

Continue to help, if you can!
  • Make an online-donation: SEBS* or the Ama Foundation**.
  • Bring your family's donations in before school ends to the jar in the school office. All donations will go directly to the Ama Foundation.
