Welcome Rhonda Hainer, Our New Guest Services Manager At RMH Riley

We are pleased to welcome Rhonda Hainer to the RMHI team.  Rhonda and her husband relocated to Indianapolis from Iowa two years ago.  She brings with her a multitude of professional  experience, most recently working as an adjunct faculty member at Scott Community College.

"I am excited and honored to join the team at the Ronald McDonald House of Indiana. I have spent my life working with volunteers of all ages and stages in life.  I am looking forward to getting to know all of you wonderful volunteers who give so generously of your time, talents and compassion to our guests.  We could not be the House of love without you," says Rhonda.

Two New Ways To Support The House

C3 Cart

Care, Comfort and Coffee

The C3 Cart will provide Riley Hospital families with much appreciated coffee and give the RMHI volunteers an opportunity to educate families about the services the House offers. C3 volunteers will visit two Riley Hospital waiting rooms every Tuesday and Thursday mornings and provide coffee and great hospitality which the House is known for.

Thank you Nancy Iles, JoAn Reed, Deb St. Pierre and Marie Shea for agreeing to be our initial coffee cart captains.  These ladies will also be mentors for new C3 volunteers.

Greeter Desk at RMHI on Limestone Street

We are looking for volunteers to help meet and greet all who come through the main entrance of our Limestone location.  This new position will assist our Guest Services Volunteers by greeting guests and visitors as they arrive, distributing parking passes, announcing visitors and helping accept donations.  Ideally, we would like to have someone at the greeter desk from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. but we are concentrating on covering the desk for the 12-3 p.m. and 3:30-6:30 p.m. shifts initially.

If you would like to learn more about either of these opportunities or know someone who might be interested, please contact Mary Friend at [email protected] or at 317-267-0605, x 225.

Fitness and Friendship

Volunteers are invited to join our houseguests for our YoBility (part yoga/part mobility) classes on May 5 and May 19 starting at 5:15 p.m. in the conference room at our location on Limestone Street. The class will be about 45 minutes long and free of charge.

Please RSVP to Kellee Meng at [email protected] if you would like to learn more or plan on attending.

Operations Update

Riley and Limestone

  • When you are registering a guest and you ask them to read and sign the card, please ask them to check a box on ethnicity.  Demographic information on who we serve is often requested when we apply to foundations for funding.

Limestone

  • Please make sure that all documents with patient / family names and other personal information are discarded in the shredder box located next to the copy machine and NOT in the regular trash.  We are all responsible for the security and privacy of our guests.
  • We now have a recycling bin in the garage next to the trash bin.  For now, this will be used primarily for discarding cardboard, metal cans, paper and plastics that we use in managing the House.  Later we will look at how we can increase our recycling.
  •  If you happen to notice a report on the credit card machine, please do not throw this away. It is automatically printed nightly and is used to assist in reconciling our account.
  • Please remember to check the communication binder for any updates that may have been made since your last shift.

Fundraiser at The Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Our friends at Walgreens have been invited to take a group of volunteers to help with cleanup at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Monday, May 25th, following the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500. Below are the details:

  • Looking for 20+ volunteers, age 16 or older

    • Volunteers are asked to bring a rake if they have one available

    • Will be cleaning a section of the grandstands (climbing stairs will be involved) and a section of the ground underneath

2015 Volunteer Satisfaction Survey

The staff and board of the Ronald McDonald House of Indiana (RMHI) places a high value on all of our volunteers because of the integral role each of you plays in the delivery of our programs and services. Because your input is so important to us, we are interested in learning more about your perceptions and opinions regarding the RMHI and our volunteer program. For this reason, we are asking you to take a few minutes to complete our online survey by Monday, May 11. The direct link can be accessed below.

2015 Volunteer Satisfaction Survey

If you prefer, you can complete and return a paper copy which is available at both the Limestone and Riley locations next to the Volunteer Timesheet Binder.

Your participation in this survey will give us a better understanding of how we are doing with regard to providing a quality volunteer experience. Since we initiate this survey every other year, we are also able to compare results to determine if improvements are being made and if concerns are being addressed.

Please be assured that all surveys are confidential as we do not ask for any identifying information unless you choose to provide it.

Your generous contribution of time and talent to our very important mission is greatly appreciated. Again, please help us by taking a few minutes to complete this survey. Thank you!

Look Who Was Caught Rolling Out The Red Carpet

Connie Cripe, Guest Services Manager at Limestone, caught George and Marsha Gordon, Guest Services Volunteers at Limestone, demonstrating communication and teamwork.

Connie wrote: "Marsha and George have been covering as Guest Services Supervisors since we have been short handed.  We are so grateful and thankful for them to be available.  Thank you Gordons!  Thank you for your dedication to the Ronald McDonald House!"

Dale and Diana Roberts, Guest Services Volunteer at Riley, caught Deb St. Pierre, Guest Services Volunteer at Riley, demonstrating friendliness and compassion, cooperation, communication and teamwork.

Diana wrote: "Dale has been working with Deb St. Pierre and thinks she is really doing a great job!  She talks to the parents in a very kind, understanding way, maybe because of her previous experience at the funeral home.  She is a perfect match for the RMHI at Riley.  She is a quick learner and is very willing to stay busy, helping wherever she can.  Thanks for pairing her with Dale.  They make a good team."

Thank you Deb!
