Selvedge Denim
Everything that's old is new again! It's true of denim too. Nowadays known as Japanese denim, selvedge denim, and designer denim, it is the original denim some of us recall wearing years ago. It's super stiff and heavyweight.
Word is that as American mills were upgrading their looms in the last century, the Japanese were buying up the vintage looms and continuing production over there.  Now in high demand, this old/new denim is being offered at RTW by some big name retailers.
We are offering it to you in blue and black!

From Mary Jo
So excited to be coordinating this sew along for SB in collaboration with Jenn of J. Stern Designs. We will be using Jenn's custom jeans pattern for our project.
If you are wondering which jeans pattern to select, look at your figure type and determine if you are more curvy or straight in shape, then use your hip measurement to determine the best size pattern for your body.

I will be proceeding through this project, accompanied by Jenn's fantastic experience, from muslin fitting to finished jeans.

From Jennifer
Hey Everyone,
It's been a while since I've been in the Sewer Salon, and I have to admit, I'm pretty excited to be back. Mary Jo, one of my Jean Fit Workshop students is going to be joining me to share with you the process of constructing jeans. I am going to be working on a pair of jeans made from some beautiful Japanese Denim that I got from Sawyerbrook Fabrics.

I've decided to craft these jeans in the true spirit of Japanese Denim, also known as Selvage Denim. The denim is not pre-washed, and the finished jeans are barely washed. Check out the details in my blog at jsterndesigns.com. I did a post to kick off my Japanese Denim Adventure. There is a link to the history of Japanese Denim... as well as some more thoughts about my stress over not pre-washing!!!
