The World Affairs Councils of America will host a Hot Topics Conference Call on Mandela's Legacy with Douglas Foster, Associate Professor, Medill School of Journalism, Northwestern University, and author of After Mandela: The Struggle for Freedom in Post Apartheid South Africa, on Wednesday, December 11, at 1:00 PM EDT. The call will be moderated by Bill Clifford, President and CEO, World Affairs Councils of America.
To RSVP for the call, please respond to this email or write to Ian J. Byrne at [email protected].
Douglas Foster is an award-winning investigative journalist, former editor of Mother Jones, and documentary producer who now teaches feature writing to graduates and undergraduates while overseeing the Journalism Residency Program in South Africa. His writing appears in The Atlantic, Columbia Journalism Review, Smithsonian, The New York Times Magazine, Salon, and The Washington Post. (Full Bio) In After Mandela, Foster examines the difficulties that South Africans - particularly the country's youth - encounter in navigating what one reviewer called "two very distinct South Africas: the cosmopolitan, globalizing world inhabited by the country's rainbow elite who reside in its largest cities, and the other world still governed by tradition, where polygamy continues, patriarchy wields power, and improvements in health, education and new economic opportunities are slow in coming."
