SaskCulture seeking board members SaskCulture is seeking volunteers for the SaskCulture Board of Directors. SaskCulture strives to build a culturally vibrant future in which all citizens of Saskatchewan individually and collectively, celebrate, value and support participation in and access to cultural experience. Positions to be filled include one-year terms in each of Arts, Cultural Industries, Heritage, Member-at Large (2) and Multiculturalism. Cameco Creative Kids Northern Cultural Fund deadline May 1 Cameco and Creative Kids Saskatchewan have partnered to offer a program grant to help create new program initiatives up to $7,500 or support existing programs up to $1,500 in northern Saskatchewan (within the Northern Sport, Culture and Recreation District boundaries) that provides cultural, artistic or creative interactive activities for children and youth ages 4 to 19. SaskCulture board member receives Caring Canadian Award SaskCulture would like to congratulate board member, Renu Kapoor, who was awarded the Caring Canadian award last week in Ottawa by Governor General David Johnston. Call for Applications - The Michelle Sereda Artist Residency for Socially-Engaged Practice The Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Regina has established an artist residency in memory of Michele Sereda, an alumna and multidisciplinary artist (theatre/ performance, dance, film, music, visual arts, creative technologies) who explored social issues that touched on intercultural dialogue and creation. Aboriginal Editors' Circle Deadline Extended The application deadline for the Aboriginal Editors' Circle has been extended to Monday, April 27, 2015 at 4:30 p.m. The application form and program information are available at www.artsboard.sk.ca/aec. Call for Nominations - CARFAC National Visual Arts Advocate Award CARFAC seeks to honour a professional artist from Saskatchewan, who has made a significant contribution as an advocate for the Canadian visual arts community. This contribution may be national or regional in scope, and is a wonderful opportunity for a local arts advocate to gain national recognition and thanks for their work. This year, the National Visual Arts Advocate Award will be presented during our national AGM to be held May 30th in Saskatoon. The winner will receive a craft-based artwork, made by an artist from Saskatchewan. Anyone can nominate a visual artist(s) for this award by completing the nomination form and forwarding it to CARFAC National. Deadline nominations is April 30, 2015. Federal Budget announces the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program The Federal Budget, released April 21, 2015, announces the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, a new dedicated fund to support renovation, expansion and improvement of existing community infrastructure across Canada. The exact dollar value of the fund was not stated. Open to municipalities, community organizations and non-profit groups, this funding could help regenerate distressed communities, and renew a legacy of community facilities. In addition to the infrastructure program, the budget also provides substantial funds to support nation-building activities and events celebrating the 150th anniversary of Confederation: it includes $210 million over 4 years for local and national events, activities and festivals. Jennifer McRorie announced as the new Curatorial Director for the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery Rod Stutt, Chair and the Board of Directors for the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery (MJMAG) announced that Heather Smith will retire after 19 year post as the Curatorial Director effective May 15, 2015. Jennifer McRorie is the new Curatorial Director for the MJMAG. McRorie is a visual artist, curator and arts writer from Moose Jaw with a BFA (with distinction) from the University of Regina and an MFA (with distinction) from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. Her paintings have been exhibited across Canada and internationally. She comes to the MJMAG with an extensive knowledge of Saskatchewan art and is well known to Saskatchewan artists through her work with the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils Saskatchewan Arts Board, and her most recent position as Executive Director at CARFAC Saskatchewan.
