Saul Nash // Artist in Residence Exhibition and Artist Talk

Saul SA Nash (SSAN) is in Detroit for a one month residency with Spread Art to develop "Are You Comfortable in Your Skin?," an experimental short film visually exploring the theme of self confidence through fiction and documentary. Join us for an artist talk and work-in-progress showing of "Art You Comfortable in Your Skin?"

43rd International Glass Invitational

Over 100 glass artists are participating in this year's exhibition, half of whom will be in attendance during the opening weekend. Concurrent with the opening of the exhibition they are offering another exhibition entitled: Glass in the 2nd Dimension. This International has grown over 43 years and has become the oldest and largest annual studio glass exhibition in the world.

Car Wash Incident

Car Wash Incident, an installation consisting of a 35minute two-channel video loop, is based on an actual insurance fraud orchestrated by siblings Jack and Leigh Ruby in 1975. The film-based project utilized a single photograph as its aesthetic and compositional guide, the only surviving element from the elaborate portfolio of fabricated evidence which was confiscated during the Ruby's incarceration

Detroit Institute of Arts

The Business of Asian Art: Yamanaka & Company and Charles Lang Freer 

Lecture detailing the relationship between Detroit's most notable collector of Asian Art in the late 19th and early 20th century, Charles Lang Freer and Yamanaka & Company, which sold Asian art, antiques and curios. The lecture will be held at the Detroit Institute of Arts and followed by a reception and tours of Freer's home, located one block north of the DIA on Ferry Avenue.

Sunday, April 26, 2-6pm.  The lecture begins at 2pm at the Detroit Institute of Arts, Marvin and Betty Danto Lecture Hall, Free with DIA admission 3:30-5pm reception and tours at the Freer House, $5 students / $5 Members / $10 General Admission


Detroit Institute of Arts hosts Wayne State University Professor Jeffrey Abt for "A Conversation with Graham Beal" 

A public interview with DIA Director Graham W. J. Beal by WSU Professor Jeffrey Abt. Beal's forthcoming retirement offers a unique opportunity to invite his reflections on his background, his career in museum work prior to arriving at the DIA, his experiences at the DIA and his observations about the future of museums.
