HISTORY IS ALIVE AT MAYFEST OF HUNTINGDON APRIL 25, 2015

HUNTINGDON, PA -- Welcome in spring at Mayfest of Huntingdon, a unique historic-themed festival in Pennsylvania with free entertainment, more than 150 street vendors and demonstrations, costumed performers from various historical eras, a petting zoo and more! The event is hosted on Washington Street in historic downtown Huntingdon, Pa., on April 25 from 9 am to 5 pm, rain or shine. Attendees will enjoy free music, dance performers, demonstrations and exhibits during their stroll through history at Mayfest; along with store and restaurant specials. Each block on Washington Street features a historical theme: Renaissance Faire, Victorian Era, Colonial Times, Back to the 50's and Woodstock. Attendees are invited to wear costumes to join in the fun.Stage schedules and other details are available at www.MayfestOfHuntingdon.org. Mayfest of Huntingdon is a free event that offers free parking in historic downtown Huntingdon PA.

You can help support Mayfest of Huntingdon by purchasing a button at any of the Huntingdon County United Way booths along the festival route. The button gets you a free ride on the Conestoga Wagon by Dayze Gone Bye Carriage Rides and also a ride on the ponies at Party Ponies at the event!

 

Huntingdon Dance Academy

The Huntingdon Dance Academy will be wowing the crowds at Mayfest with 2 performance times that include dance classes of different age groups. Jazz, ballet, hip hop, musical theatre and the Huntingdon Dance Company will be featured at Mayfest of Huntingdon by the Huntingdon Dance Academy. Performances happen at the corner of 5th Street and Washington Street.

Knighting Ceremony

Kids can become knighted by the Queen for doing a good deed. Parents can nominate their children for knighting. See the Queen for details!

HISTORIC COSTUME CONTEST

Don't miss the COSTUME CONTEST at the Queen's tent. Anyone in a costume can participate! Awards in many categories including most historically period correct and funniest costume. Be judged after 11 AM at the Queen's tent (4th & Washington). Gather when the Queen decrees to hear who wins! (TBD)

 

Shaggy Mountain Petting Zoo

Goats and chickens and coloring books, oh my! Stop by to visit our furry friends appearing this year in the Colonial block. Shaggy Mountain Petting Zoos goal is for you to have a good ole' time when the farm comes to visit you at Mayfest of Huntingdon.

 

Choreabellum- Improvisational Tribal Style and Tribal Fusion Belly Dance ensemble

Choreabellum is a State College based Improvisational Tribal Style and Tribal Fusion Belly Dance ensemble that focuses on the camaraderie and sisterhood of Tribal Belly Dance.  Co-founded by Pam Ames and Meghan Zoller, Choreabellum specializes in family friendly gypsy-style belly dance, incorporating traditional and new wave belly dance influences from all over the world to form a variety of high energy performances. 10a-3p in the Renaissance Faire block of Mayfest of Huntingdon.

 

Italian Street Painting with Graham Curtis- corner of 5th and Washington Street

Italian Street Painting chalk art at its finest. Join renowned local artist Graham Curtis as he creates a temporary masterpiece in chalk on Washington Street in historic downtown Huntingdon PA. Check it out in the Mayfest Renaissance Faire section on April 25, 2015!

 

24th Annual Huntingdon Quilt Show

The Redbud Quilt Guild of Huntingdon County, PA hosts the annual quilt show at the Huntingdon Community Center, 310 5th Street, Huntingdon, PA. Quilt registration date is Thursday April 24, 9 am - Noon. The Quilt show is open to the public Friday, April 24, 2015, 9 am to 7 pm and Saturday, April 25, 2015 9 am to 3:30 pm. Admission is $1.00 donation. There will also be displays by experienced quilters Gladys Forston and George and Beverly Fitzgerald, handmade crafts, the Guild challenge, quilting demonstrations, and door prizes. Huntingdon County Historical Society Open House

Come join the Huntingdon County Historical Society for Mayfest, April 25, 2015 from 9am to 5pm. Our facility will be open to the public on Saturday. This is a great opportunity to visit the society, see the historical displays including antique clothing and explore the research library. Horse drawn wagon rides (Mayfest button required)

Dayze Gone Bye Conestoga Wagon Rides (Mayfest button required.) Start your ride in a horse-drawn vintage Conestoga wagon at the corner of 4th & Mifflin. Ride through historic downtown Huntingdon.

Party Pony rides (Mayfest button required)

Party Pony rides will be in the Renaissance Faire block (Mayfest button required.) Princesses and Princes can practice their best "royal wave" during their ride through the Renaissance Faire block between 3rd and 4th Streets on Washington.

46th PA REGIMENT BAND (Logan Guard) - Civil War era music

Performing throughout the day will be the 46th PA REGIMENT BAND (Logan Guard) formed in December 1995 by a group of musicians from the Altoona area. The bands desire is to honor the Logan Guard Militia from Lewistown, the 46th PA Volunteer Regiment, and the musicians from Birdsboro Community Band who enlisted together and maintained the morale of the troops with their music throughout the war.

Back to the 50s with Dan & Galla

Dan & Galla will perform 50s tunes and host the fun 50s-style contests like jitter bug, bubble gum blowing, and hula hoop!

 

Woodstock revisited!

Enjoy a flashback to the 1960s and hear all your favorite music, create your own protest signs, and wear your headbands and peace stickers.

 

Stone Town Gallery and Caf?

In the gallery: Kids have the opportunity to create an art project. Take a break in our outside courtyard right along the festival route. Sample the savory and sweet crepes from the Caf?. Spring menu available.

The Spring Thaw art show is OPEN NOW at the Art Space on 4th Street in Huntingdon and ends with the awards ceremony on April 25 at 3 pm; during Mayfest of Huntingdon! Nicholas Roddy and Friends will present a reading of "Lorenzo," an original work in the style of a mobster noir. Written by Roddy, "Lorenzo" chronicles the downfall of Loreno Morelli, New York City's leading gangster. This reader's theater event is part of Roddy's graduation project for Mount Union Area High School with assistance and costumes by The Playhouse at McConnellstown. Cheryl Smith and Meghan Whitesel mentored the project. Readings are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. outside Brown's Funeral Home on Washington Street in the Woodstock block of Mayfest of Huntingdon.

 

"I am really excited about the Kid's Faerie Area in the Renaissance Faire block between 4th and 3rd Streets on Washington Street. Party Ponies, Castle Bounce House and Peaceful Life Fellowship will be have faerie gardens to build and photos with costumes and with some special fest characters like princesses, pirates and other props. Fun! I can't wait!!! And story time with Bekka Bluebird and crafts!"

Yeeeaaa! Faerie Story Time with Bluebird and Manda at 11:00am and 1:30pm between the cardboard castle and the princess bounce house in the Renaissance Faire block between 4th and 3rd Streets. I really would love to see lots of little faeries and princesses all over the place. What fun!

Don't forget to buy buttons to help us have more Mayfests. We are totally all volunteer and all money goes to the putting together of events and shows. It is our only fund raiser. If every person at the fest would give up one dollar we could have a great Street party.
