St. Petersburg Tribune: Eight selected to make St. Pete Pier proposals

Closed and slated for demolition, odds favor that the city's inverted pyramid pier will get a second life.

Only two of the eight design teams selected to submit pier designs say they will demolish the long-time city icon. The other six plan to re-imagine the pier, using the building's shell and the large concrete blocks it sits atop, which city studies show are in good condition.

Tampa Bay Times: St. Petersburg's Pier selection committee narrows field to eight finalists

The 16 design teams vying to build a new Pier were whittled to eight on Friday, and the odds seem to favor a concept that would save the inverted pyramid.

Six of the eight finalists plan to reuse the iconic 1973 structure in their bid for the $46 million project.

Orlando Sentinel: A taste of St. Petersburg beer trail

Sometimes, it's hard to convince people that reporting these columns is work.

That thought crossed my mind again on my recent road trip on the St. Petersburg-Clearwater Beer Trail, an itinerary of more than a dozen independently owned breweries and brewpubs from Tarpon Springs in the north to Treasure Island in the south.

Tampa Tribune: 29 percent more passengers fly through St. Pete airport in September

It has been a great year for St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport - 29 percent more passengers flew through the airport in September. The increase was 23 percent for the year.

"It's been a tremendous year," said airport spokeswoman Michele Routh. "It's nice to be able to send out good news," said Airport Director Noah Lagos.

"It's all about the airport and the Tampa Bay the Easy Way marketing campaign," for which the airport recently won the Flagler Award at the 47th Annual Governor's Conference on Tourism.
