WASAVP Issues Position Statement on Marijuana

WASAVP has issued a position statement on marijuana that reflects our concern for Washington youth in a commercial marijuana marketplace--they did not vote for this!

In addition to sharing prevention science, we call for certain measures and recommendations to prevent underage marijuana use and abuse in Washington including the following:
  • "Medicine" should only be approved by the FDA
  • Continued research on non-smoked cannabinoids
  • No MMJ authorization cards to youth
  • Ban MJ advertising beyond store sign
  • In-state identification required for purchase
  • Apply smoking laws to vaporizing
  • Emergency funding for public health campaign
  • Place MJ Dedicated Fund in trust to protect it
  • Provide funding to law enforcement
  • Insure ALL EIGHT of the DOJ's "rules" followed
WASAVP will work to deliver our position paper to every lawmaker in Olympia for reference as the many marijuana bills continue to work their way through the legislature this session.

Please also consider using this document with lawmakers and officials in your local jurisdictions as well as consider sending it to your representatives and senators in Olympia--seeing the science more than once helps!

Contact us at action@wasavp.org for an editable version if you wish to modify the document with your own recommendations or local conditions.

We thank the National Association of Drug Court Professionals for their document on which much of ours is based.
