Westland Veterans Association Golf Outing -The Westland Veterans Association will be having it's 5th Annual Golf Outing on Saturday, August 3rd at Thorne Hills Golf Course located at 12915 Sumpter Road in Carleton, MI.  Registration is at 9 a.m. and the tournament starts at 10 a.m.  Entry is $100 per person and includes lunch, two drink tickets and a steak dinner.  Proceeds go to the Memorial Garden of Westland.  For more information please call (734)335-7943. 

 

Fundraiser for Fallen Firefighter Brian Woehlke - Black Iris Booking and The Majestic Theater Complex are putting on a concert to benefit the family of Westland's fallen firefighter Brian Woehlke on Saturday, August 3rd.  The concert will be held at "The Magic Stick," located at 4120 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48201.  The bands featured are:

-Pt's Revenge

-Nick Ciolino

-Heads Will Roll

-Wilson

 
The venue is being donated and bands are playing for free so 100% of the ticket proceeds will go to Woehlke's wife Jen and daughter Ava.  Tickets are a $15 minimum donation and can be purchased on ticketweb.com (with a service charge) or at the venue in The Garden Bowl without a service charge.  Doors open at 6 p.m.
 
Community Blood Drive- The Wayne/Westland Fire and Police Departments are organizing a blood drive on Monday, August 5th from 1:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.  It will be held at The Friendship Center located at 1119 Newburgh Rd.  Residents interested in donating blood in honor of everyday heroes can make an appointment by calling (313)549-7043 or by visiting www.redcrossblood.org and using sponsorship code wwfp.
 
Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location. 
 
-The Westland City Council Meeting will be held on Monday, August 5th at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers located at 36601 Ford Road.
 
-The
Economic Development Corporation/Tax Increment Finance Authority will be holding a special meeting on August 6th at 9:00 a.m. in Council Chambers located at 36601 Ford Road.
-The Westland Police and Fire Retirement Board will meet on August 6th at 5:00 p.m. in the Police Department conference room located at 36701 Ford Road.
-The Planning Commission Meeting will be held on August 7th at 7:30 p.m. in  Council Chambers located at 36601 Ford Road.

Summer Concert at Goudy Park- The Wayne/Westland Parks and Recreation Department invites you to enjoy a concert on August 7th from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Goudy Park.  The band that is performing is The Missing Link which is a Blues and Vintage Rock band who is sponsored by Henry's.  Please bring the family and enjoy some great summer music and fun.
 
Community Gathering at Corrado park-  Mayor Wild will be holding his first community gathering of the summer on August 8th from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at Corrado Park located on Gladys at Flamingo.  The mayor invites you to bring the family to this FREE event and enjoy water slides, water activities and a dunk tank.  Residents will be able to view police and fire vehicles and the new Department of Public Service Equipment.  Other activities include a putting contest and kids safety activities.  There will also be free food and drink and free giveaways.  

 

Westland Farmer's Market Held Every Thursday - The Westland Farmer's Market will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. every Thursday in the City Hall Parking Lot, located at 36601 Ford Road.  This is the ultimate site for farmers, growers and producers to sell their own products directly to the public.  Residents now have the opportunity to catch a FREE ride to the market at the following locations and times. *All times are approximate and dependent on weather, traffic, available space, etc.

Cyclists, Skaters, Runners & Walkers Enjoy Hines Park Traffic Free - Saturday's in the Park have returned to Hines Drive and offers visitors the opportunity to walk, run, skate or cycle safely from 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. without the concern of motor vehicle traffic.  Hines Drive will be closed every Saturday from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive through September 8, 2013.  For more information, please call (734) 261-1990 or visit www.parks.waynecounty.com.

Get Your Tickets to the Kelly Miller Circus - The Kelly Miller Circus is coming to Attwood Park, located at 33601 Annapolis, on Saturday, August 10 for two shows, one at 2 p.m. and one at 5:30 p.m.  Tickets are now on sale at the following locations, Wayne Westland Community Center, Mark Chevrolet, Jack Demmer Ford, Henry's Service Center, Wayne-Westland Federal Credit Union and the Westland Municipal Golf Course.

 

Westland Hosts Household Hazardous Waste Collection - Westland Residents may utilize the countywide Household Hazardous Waste Collection scheduled by Wayne County's Department of Public Services on Saturday, August, 24 at the Westland Shopping Center parking lot, located at 35000 Warren Road (lot behind JCPenney's).  The collection runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and items that will be accepted include household paints, stains, lawn and garden chemicals, old computers and tv's, antifreeze and several other items.  Pharmaceutical waste (non-controlled substances only) and medical sharps in puncture-proof containers will also be accepted.  All waste must be from residential sources only.  For more information, please call 734-326-3936.
