Scholarships Available to National Council on Problem Gambling's Annual Conference

GAMBLING DISORDER AND PHYSICAL HEALTH WEBINAR - APRIL 10, 2-3:30 P.M.

The Florida Council on Problem Gambling will be offering a free webinar on "Gambling Disorder and Physical Health." The webinar will discuss the significant toll that problem gambling takes on physical health. Emphasis will be placed on encouraging treatment providers to discuss physical health and self-care as part of the comprehensive treatment plan for gambling disorder patients. The webinar will be presented by Timothy Fong, MD, Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA. To register, click here.

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE TO NCPG CONFERENCE

Northstar will be offering five $500 scholarships to attend the National Council on Problem Gambling's annual conference July 10-11 in Baltimore. Gambling counselors and others who are providing services to gamblers are invited to apply. To apply, please write a one-page letter addressing the type of population you serve and how you would like to impact problem gambling in Minnesota. Letters can be sent to [email protected]. The deadline is May 15.

NORTHSTAR TO HOST WEBCAST TRAINING ON SBIRT - JUNE 25

Northstar will be hosting a live webcast on Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT). The training will cover screening for gambling problems, motivational prelude to engagement and participation in behavior change process and, if indicated, referral to treatment. The webcast will be presented by Ken Winters, Ph.D., director of the Center for Adolescent Substance Abuse Research at the University Minnesota, and takes place on June 25 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. You may attend the live presentation or log on to watch the webcast.
