President's Message

Happy New Year to all of you. This year promises to be a stellar one for our chapter!

Our 2014 season has started with a bang!  Linda Reid had so many of us sign up for the Snow Bunny League at Teal Bend that we had a waiting list!  Thanks to Linda for heading up our Leagues.

Our board has been working extremely hard over the past 2 1/2 months to ensure a season full of golf events, leagues, education events and classes as well as social activities.  I am so very grateful for their help and dedication and am truly honored to be working with such an extraordinary group of women.  I personally interviewed several of our past presidents, and their insight and wealth of information has been invaluable to me.

Our first event will be the Kickoff Brunch being held on Saturday February 8, 2014, from 8:30-11:30am at Plates Cafe. Optional 9 or 18 hole golf at Mather has been arranged by our Events Director, Pam Katros.

Plates benefits the St. John's Women's and Children's Shelter.  If you bring a bag of toiletries, or any black clothing/socks/shoes, you will receive a free raffle ticket. (NOTE: Black clothing is the uniform required for all of the women when they serve at events).

Last year's brunch was outstanding, and this one promises to be even better.  We'll be in the main dining room this year, and our sponsors will have tables set up on one side of the room.  The raffle donations from our sponsors are truly fabulous - including a full set of Beginner Clubs, donated by Jenni Martin, G2 Golf; Golf with a Pro, from at least 3 of our area's major Golf Pros; with at least one of the Pros attending in person!

Think of at least one woman you know who could benefit from all the events, education, activities, fun, friendship and networking that membership affords, and invite them to the brunch.  If they sign up for EWGA membership at the Kickoff, they receive a $20 discount. We will keep track of how many new members you recruit this year and you will be rewarded at our end of the year event.

Please bring your EWGA membership card with you to the Kickoff (if you can find it!) - we will use our cards as name tags at our events this year - we will provide clip-on sleeves so that you can wear your card. You can keep it in your golf bag and easily pull it out when you attend EWGA events, or when you check in at a course that gives us a discount.

As this terrific season begins, if any of you can volunteer for a committee or an event, please contact me ([email protected]), or sign up at the Kickoff.  Our chapter becomes even more successful with the help of volunteers, and this way you get to meet more of our amazing members.  We are looking for someone to help Fran Brolan and me with the social events this year.

Please remember to check our website regularly for all the events and activities offered locally and nationally: www.ewgasacramento.org

I'm looking forward to seeing you and some prospective members at our Kickoff, and at the other exciting events this season.

I wish you all a healthy, happy 2014, on and off the fairways.

New Year's Financial Resolutions You Can Keep

"New Year's Resolutions. You're expected to make them, but not expected to keep them. Well sort of anyway. It's a clich. And why New Year's Resolutions and not Mid-Year Resolutions? Unless you've discovered that magic potion and are going to turn over a new leaf, New Year's resolutions, if we must make them, have to be practical, manageable and sustainable. Otherwise, it's pretty much a big waste of time and a drag on your psyche. But here I am writing another article about resolutions and hoping that you'll take to heart at least one of the actions mentioned below. Why not, right? It's worth a try."
