Hospitality:
A Life That Says Welcome:

Sermon: Eddie Pipkin

 "Entertaining

Angels Unaware"

Scripture: Hebrews 13:1-2 (NRSV)

It's week two of our worship series, Hospitality: A Life That Says Welcome.  Hospitality to strangers as well as our brothers and sisters in Christ is one of the foundations of the Christian life.  We think of the word hospitality in the context of the tourism industry in which many of us work (taking good care of paying guests) or entertaining friends and family (taking good care of those we love and who will return the favor), but the open, substantive welcome of the Early Church is what made it stand out and grow.

So, in the spirit of the early disciples, here's a practical challenge. Making connections and building relationships is not just the purview of a Hospitality Team - it's the work of all the people.  Do one or more of these things in the next few weeks:

  •  MAKE A NEW FRIEND: Make it a point to learn somebody's name that you did not know before.  What's their story?
  •  FOLLOW UP ON AN OLD FRIEND: Call, write, or text and check on someone from your Peace family whom you haven't seen in a while. You know, the one you are thinking "I wonder where so-and-so has been?" "I wonder how such-and-such is doing?"  Take a step to find out.
  •  BREAK BREAD WITH AN OLD OR NEW FRIEND:  Next week's sermon is all about the starring role that food plays in the history of hospitality.  Make a point of sharing a cup of coffee, a piece of pie, or a full blown meal with somebody you've lost touch with or would like to get to know better.  That's where relationships happen!
  •  JOIN US FOR A POP-UP PICNICWe've got a pot-luck on Wednesday, April 22nd (join us!) and a fund raiser dinner on April 24th (fun!) but here's something a little zany.  Next Sunday, April 26th,  after the 11:00 a.m. worship service, let's get together for a pop-up picnic.  You bring something for your family to eat and I'll bring something for mine, and we'll hang out together and enjoy one another's company.  Lemonade provided.
This Sunday - p lease give a warm Peace welcome to our special guest, Dr. Cheryl  L. Walker  from the General Board of Discipleship.  She will be sharing news about Africa University, a United Methodist inspired and supported educational ministry, during worship and Adult Sunday School classes. For more information about Africa University go to:  http://www.africau.edu/

WE NEED HELP TO MAKE GOD'S LOVE REAL!

"WeServe Weekend" - THIS Saturday & Sunday (4/18 &19)

It's not too late to get involved--

We really need more help with out team that is going to clean apartments and visit with their residents at the Salvation Army Towers (there is a long list of elderly residents who need help and companionship and have signed up for a visit from our teams).  This is easy and meaningful work!  You can do it, and we need you to help make God's love real in the most tangible, face-to-face manner possible.  This team will meet at Peace at 1:00 p.m. Sunday and carpool.  The project should be completed by 4:00 p.m.

Email Eddie Pipkin directly at [email protected] today to sign up or get details.

We can also still use some help with our house painting project (which begins Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. -- painting the exterior of a home for Peace member) and we need help hosting the bingo game and a visiting sessions at Hunter's Creek Nursing and Rehab Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.  To sign up for one of these teams, email Eddie.

These service opportunities are the Spring edition of our popular SundayServe event from the Fall.  If you are unavailable this weekend, but would like to learn about serving in the community to share God's love, email Eddie.

Peace Pedalers Bike the 75 Mile MS Citrus Tour - May 2

Support Team "Peace Pedalers" in 2015!  We formed our church cycling team in 2009 to raise funds to help find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis (this disease affects several of our Peace church members). On May 2nd and 3rd members of our team will be bicycling 75 and 150 mile routes on the MS Citrus Tour to raise funds!  You can make an online donation or donate via check or cash at church - just indicate "MS Ride" on the memo line.
