Spring Member Meeting - Right-to-Work

The AGC of Minnesota spring member meeting will be held on Thursday, April 30, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Minneapolis Airport.  There will be a social hour from 5:00 to 6:00 pm, followed by the member meeting.  The guest speaker will be Tim Sullivan, a construction law attorney with Best & Flanagan LLP.  He'll discuss Wisconsin's new Right-to-Work law and its impact on Minnesota contractors doing work in Wisconsin.  Included in his remarks will be information on:

  • When is the law effective?
  • What does the new law mean to contractors?
  • Do existing collective bargaining agreements in Wisconsin have to be changed?
  • Is there any effect on union dues or collectively bargained hiring halls?
  • What is the effect on collective bargaining?
  • Does the Wisconsin law signal a decline for organized labor in the North Central states?
  • What are some of the contributing factors that led up to the law being passed?
  • Minnesota is now surrounded by Right-to-Work states.  What does this mean for Minnesota unions and contractors?

Registration is available here.  This meeting is open to all employees of AGC member companies.

Fraud Perpetrator Sentenced

Over the past few years, some of you may have been contacted by "American General Contractors Directory," "National Association of General Contractors and Home Builders," "American General Contractors Association," or "American General Construction Association" about payment for membership dues or a directory listing. Because none of these organizations exist, and the names being used were similar to Associated General Contractors, AGC of America pursued legal action to stop these fraudulent offers. Darren Stokes, the person responsible, was recently sentenced to four years in prison for wire and mail fraud.
