Announcing Partnership with The Stephen C. Rose Legacy Fund

We're excited to formally announce our partnership with The Stephen C. Rose Legacy Fund to better educate, engage and empower young African-American students and alumni around mental health and wellness.

A little over one year ago, we collectively mourned the loss of our beloved brother Stephen Rose (AB '07).  In that moment, we saw it as an important time to not only support our community in grieving but also promote increased dialogue around mental health and wellness and better support brothers and sisters among us who struggle silently.  Furthermore, we recognized that Health & Wellness as a strategic focus, was critical in order for us to move towards a more connected, conscious and loving alumni community.

As part of our partnership, HBAS, with support and leadership from the SCR Legacy Fund will launch and co-lead a number of new programs and initiatives that meet three strategic goals:

I.  Supporting Knowledge Building and Sharing:

  • Increase knowledge-building and knowledge-sharing by experts concerned with the mental health of young people
    • Launching quarterly newsletter on Health & Wellness
    • Establishing Advisory Council of Experts

 II.  Promoting Open Dialogue:

  • Openly and effectively engaging young people in discussing and promoting mental health
    • Hosting on & off-campus forums on Health & Wellness that engage the entire community on practical ways to live full, healthy & productive lives

III.  Increasing Access to & Awareness of Resources:

  • Facilitate access to and awareness of high quality mental health resources
    • Hosting an online directory of affordable mental health practitioners & resources

As an organization, we're committed to leading on this issue and we invite you to learn more about our work and join us in our efforts over the coming months as we explore effective ways to support our entire community.

About: The Stephen C. Rose Legacy Fund

The Stephen C. Rose Legacy Fund is a philanthropic organization created in memory of Stephen Rose, a Harvard alumnus of the class of 2007.  Stephen valued his participation in the African-American community of Harvard, and cared deeply about the well-being of others.  His Legacy Fund works to support programs, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions to more openly and effectively engage young people in discussing and promoting mental health.   It also supports knowledge-building and knowledge-sharing by experts concerned with mental health of young people.  The SCR Legacy Fund is taking special aim at promoting the mental well-being of young people of color during their college years, and that of young people transitioning from college into emerging adulthood.  The Fund is awarding a select number of fellowships to students who have a strong interest in conducting hands-on research regarding on-campus mental health issues.

In partnership with HBAS, the SCR Legacy Fund seeks to promote the mental health of young African-American alumni, and the good work of alumni to support dialogue, knowledge-building, and mental health of African-American and other minority students.  We are grateful for the interest and engagement of HBAS around this critical issue.  Our shared vision is to build a high-impact mental wellness initiative that helps members and students to live full, healthy, and productive lives.
