City will Have Zero Tolerance Policy at Westland Summer Festival

Westland, MI - The Westland Summer Festival is back this week in Celebration of the 4th of July Holiday. In expectation of thousands of residents and visitors descending upon City Hall Grounds for the festivities, Wade Shows, City Administration, City Council and the Westland Police Department have met to discuss their Zero Tolerance Policy during the Festival.

"The Westland Police Department is working in cooperation with Wade Shows to ensure the public's safety. Several changes and security enhancements have been put into place for this year's event. The security goal of this year's festival will be to keep it a family event. The Westland Police Department is prepared for, and will maintain, a zero tolerance approach with anyone who causes a disruption," stated Police Chief Jeff Jedrusik.

The Zero Tolerance Policy means that any persons found to be in violation of the Festival's rules, with failure to comply after warning will be considered trespassing, and any and all persons involved will be required to leave the Festival Grounds and will be banned from the property for life. Those activities that are NOT PERMITTED at the Westland Summer Festival are inclusive of, but not limited to: wearing clothing, jewelry and/or gang related items that the Westland Summer Festival Inc. deem inappropriate or if such items are worn in a manner that is deemed inappropriate; any and all loitering and/or congregating in large groups of 8 or more anywhere on the property; possession of outside alcoholic beverages; bringing in pets, other than those approved by the American Disabilities Act (ADA); and any and all actions considered to be fighting, simulated fighting, slap boxing and/or horseplay.

"We are excited for this year's Summer Festival. We want to maintain an environment that is fun and family-friendly for our visitors and local residents, " said Mayor Wild.

The Westland Summer Festival is being held from Wednesday, July 3rd through Sunday, July 7th. The Festival opens at 4:00pm on Wednesday, July 3rd and Friday, July 5th. On Thursday, July 4th, Saturday, July 6th, and Sunday, July 7th the Festival will open at noon. The fireworks display will be Sunday evening.
