More Music
in Weeks Ahead...

All of the musicians at the Market volunteer their time to give back to their community through their talent and passion.  Show them your appreciation by clapping, dancing, and dropping a dollar or two in the tip jar.
Greetings!

How quickly it seems we've arrived at the first indoor market of the season. The entire outdoor market season sprinted past Logan Boulevard in a whirl of garlic scapes, strawberries, greens, squashes, eggplants, plums and suddenly here we are, the first of November. We're not sure about you but we can't believe all that lies ahead in our new location to keep that momentum going. With every year we find more vendors to fill the void of fresh, local produce in a climate that is less than friendly for such things.

Many people may think of the indoor winter market as lacking compared to the outdoor season, but we have retained almost 75% of our Farmer/Producer vendors, even adding the new Urban Canopy to our fold to supply micro greens to take home and harvest as you need. While we lost a small number of ready to eat foods and other goodies for a few months, for the most part all your favorite small local businesses are making the move indoors to "warm the Square" and keep your pantry and fridge stocked no matter the temperatures.

Let's show them how tight knit and supportive Logan Square residents are and keep their families supported through the colder months by stopping in to chat about next year's goals, talk about how to eat all the food you've been freezing or canning, and keep fresh locally made produce and goods a regular occurrence in your home. We look forward to seeing you, right off the Logan Square Blue Line Stop at 2755 N. Milwaukee Avenue (at Spaulding).

Remember, street parking is free on Sundays and the new location is only half a mile up the street from our outdoor home!

SHOPPING BAG - Easy Holiday Preparedness
Last week we discussed drying herbs for edible gifts in preparation for the holidays. This week, we apply the same drying methods to comforting bath and home products that make an indulgent gift.

First: Fizzy Bath Bombs.

This recipe is very basic and low cost. Use your favorite
Lavender Bath Bomb
dried herbs paired with an essential oil (citrus, lavender or rosemary, sage, tea tree oil). Use muffin tins or other molds to make the size and shapes unique.

Second: Sugar or Salt Body Scrubs. A little essential, Vitamin E and Safflower oils with herbs of your choosing make for a quick easy addition to sugar or salt for a body scrub. Fresh herbs mean the scrub needs to be used right away. Drying extends the shelf life of this scrub.

Many other options are at your fingertips: fragrant dryer sachets, simple bath teas and soaks with oats, hops, rose hips (steal some from your garden to dry and use)... the list goes on and on. With the basics outlined here, the possibilities are endless, an incredibly easy!

A FINAL WORD
Thumbs up at the Market!
Dear Neighbors,

Remember, when you go to bed Saturday, say good-by to daylight savings time, and
turn your clocks back an hour!  That way, you'll be on time for the first indoor Market of the season at our new location, the former Pierre's Bakery, at Milwaukee and Spaulding.

The new location is a big change, but another is that thanks to our teaming up with the Nosh, the ready-to-eat food fest, we'll have a nifty selection of unique foods to chow down on, before, while, or after you pick out the fresh food you'll be cooking and eating for the week.  Come hungry!

I'll see you at the Market!

Sincerely,

Paul Levin
Logan Square Chamber of Commerce

P.S.  For those of you coming to the Market by car: please plan to park on Milwaukee Avenue (free parking on Sundays) or one of the side streets, as Pierre's parking lot will be filled with our farmers and vendors trucks and vans, and won't be available to the public.
