Westland Police K9 Becomes National Mascot for A Good Cause

Westland, MI - Narco, one of Westland's two Police K9s, has been selected to be one of the National Mascots for Jillybean's Barking Bones, a Louisville, Kentucky based dog treat company. The company's dog treats are made with no additives or preservatives, only healthy, natural ingredients and a portion of each purchase will be donated to the Good Dog Foundation, a charitable organization which promotes the use of animal assisted therapy in health care awareness, research, education and disaster response.

Inspired by the love and compassion of her devoted dog Honeybear, Jill Brzezinski Conley, a Michigan native and a close friend to Westland's Chief of Police, Jeff Jedrusik, founded Jillybean's Barking Bones. Jill came up with the idea of baking dog snacks while battling her ongoing fight against metastatic breast cancer, with the goal of promoting a message about the importance of dog therapy during illness. Jillybean's Barking Bones opened for business on June 21, 2013.

"I created Barking Bones Dog Snacks for all dogs that provide unconditional love and support, and to promote the therapeutic value of the human-animal bond," said Conley. "Narco's commitment to protecting and serving the City of Westland truly represents the sense of loyalty that dogs possess. We wanted to celebrate Narco's commitment to his community by making him a National Mascot for Jillybean's Barking Bones."

Narco is now featured on the company's website, jillybeansbarkingbones.com, and is proud to be representing the message of the healing process and comfort that dogs are capable of giving.

"We are very proud of Narco for being an important member of our police force and a symbol for such a good cause," said Mayor Wild.
