New Online Learning from IMLS

IMLS is co-sponsoring two free webinars for libraries in December with its partners, The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Service (USCIS).

The first, "New Financial Education for Libraries" takes place on Wednesday, December 4 (3:00 pm ET). Find out more here. 

On Thursday, December 12 (12:30 pm ET), IMLS and the USCIS launch a four-part webinar series that begins with a session on basic immigration procedure, benefits and online resources for librarians. Find out more here.  

Libraries: The Original Maker Spaces

Amy Eshleman, ULC's Program Lead for Education oversees the IMLS/MacArthur-funded Learning Labs Initiative. In a recent issue of MacArthur's online publication, "Spotlight on Digital Media & Learning," Amy reminds readers that libraries have a long history as maker spaces, harking back to the days when people attended knitting classes, for example. Looking forward, Amy comments, "...libraries are getting really energized about DML work. It feels like a natural place for libraries to be. I see libraries around the country thinking how to be at the center of these conversations and how to support kids with the kind of authentic learning experiences that will lead them to be successful as adults."

Edge Transforms Technology Services at the New Braunfels Public Library

The Edge Initiative, in development since 2011 launches nationally in January! Libraries that have tested the benchmarks and related tools during the pilot phase are offering testimon ials to its value. 

In one Texas community, Edge has already transformed services that the library provides.
