10 News: Preparations Begin for Firestone Grand Prix
At 7 a.m., Monday, February 23, downtown St. Petersburg will begin to take on the look of a street-legal speed zone when construction gets underway for the 11th annual Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. The stretch of Bayshore Drive to First Street South and Albert Whitted Park will be affected. Motorists and pedestrians can expect race-related street closures and detours downtown from Albert Whitted Airport to north of Pioneer Park until approximately April 10.
Detours will be in place. Beach Drive and Central Avenue will remain open during construction and throughout race weekend. Albert Whitted Park will remain closed to motorized and foot traffic until mid-April. To ensure everyone's safety, race officials and St. Petersburg Police urge observing posted signage warning against entering closed construction sites.

When it opens in mid 2016, the hospital is projected to bring up to 20 jobs to the city from entry level animal caretakers to full-time veterinarians.

Creative Loafing: Transforming Tampa Bay: A new Urban Lab at St. Pete Shuffle's Cue House
For three decades, Tampa has benefited from the bright, open minds of USF School of Architecture and Community Design students who have taken the city as their challenge. From pedestrian bridges arching over the river to green walls bounding transit systems, fresh ideas from these students have stimulated thinking about local design and development.
St. Petersburg has now rolled out the red carpet for USF SACD by picking up the $100,000 tab to rehab a 1,400-square-foot building in the historic Mirror Lake Park Shuffleboard Courts. This 1930s structure, called the Cue House, will provide studio space for graduate level community design research, thesis projects and design studios.

Tampa Bay Times: Former TV reporter sees other side as St. Petersburg police spokeswoman
The young, eager German shepherd had eyes only for the man in black. As a videographer recorded the scene, the dog leaped over hurdles, ran and chomped down on a short strap and refused to let go. That's exactly what the dog was supposed to do as the newest member of the St. Petersburg Police Department's canine unit. The man in black was Officer Matt Kirchgraber, the dog's handler and partner. Nearby, directing the video, was Yolanda Fernandez, the department's new community awareness manager and spokeswoman.
